Emily Cohn

About Me

Emily Cohn started her musical studies in elementary school with mandatory music classes where she fell in love with the piano. Her birthday present for her 8th birthday was a piano. Finally she settled in studying piano with Bonnie Jolly then Cathleen Clute and finally commencing her classical studies at the age of 18 with Kay Andre (who kicked her technic in to shape). Sophmore year of highschool Emily started jazz piano lessons with Joan Cifarelli. Joan started Emily out on her musical journey as a jazz piano player, not only opening her ears to music she had never heard before but how to be a professional musician. Emily was accepted into California State Univeristy Northridge's (CSUN) jazz program in 2006. Emily owe's a lot of her musical growth to her highschool band director/great educator/great musician Greg Brown.Emily Cohn is currently continuing her studies of jazz piano at CSUN where she is studying privatley with Gary Fukushima and continuosly learning from the great Matt Harris and Gary Pratt.Over the past two years Emily has had the privlage to also study with Matt Harris for two years as well as grab a couple lessons with Frank Zotoli, Rebeca Mauelon, and Jeff Goodkind. She continues to have great talks and musical encouragment from her mentor Jerry Steinholtz, also a great musician and person!Emily also teaches beginning piano lessons. And when lucky gets gigs around town. She loves to play! [email protected] 925-285-0712
