Influences: When writing about Diego, a new approach needs to be taken. Diego is a special person, a fact that makes it impossible to write about his life in a conventional way. That’s why, as his friend, I have decided to do it differently.

Very few people in the world make me stop and wonder the way Diego does. I have been around the industry for a while, and I have had the blessing of having many talented friends who have conquered the hearts of hundreds of thousands of people across the globe. The reality is that nobody, and I mean, nobody, has ever surprised me more than Diego.

Diego was simply born a legend, whether he likes to admit it or not (and I know he loves the concept). He was simply born a star. What’s most fascinating, is that his talent is natural and instinctive. He is humble, authentic, sensible, loyal, passionate, and my favorite of all, a true dreamer.

When I met Diego last year, one of the things that amazed me most, was the fact that Diego has only recorded one album as a solo artist. His album called “DIEGO” was recorded only in a couple of days with producer Cachorro Lopez under EMI. Diego happened to write his first lyrics ever for this record. An awesome girl at EMI, Melissa, gave Diego a song by Jade Eli/Mats Hedstom called “The Silence”, immediately after, he wrote the lyrics in Spanish to their melody which turned into “Responde”.

Now… picture yourself in a wild country like Brazil, where Mexican music does not really exist. Imagine 50,000 thousand fans screaming passionately and emotionally to Diego’s lyrics to “The Silence”. Here’s the link, click on it so we are on the same page…

Now, when you see such a reaction towards a 16 year old composer and musical artist, who so easily connects with one of the most difficult music markets in the world, you tell me what’s in front of you.

It is almost pointless, and I refuse to do it in detail, to talk about Diego’s past… because, truly, this is just Diego’s beginning, barely step one. His past is his childhood, his private moments of happiness. He has just been warming up to share with the world his heart and his talent. Indeed he has won television contests, participated in internationally recognized soap operas (“Alebrijes y Rebujos”, “Mision S.O.S”, “Rebelde”), he recorded mega hit “Aqui Voy” for Big Brother, he has been the image for the Athens Olympics, among many other accomplishments. But when talking about the beginning, what’s important to mention is that Diego’s passion is on stage and in his music.

Diego’s first record “DIEGO”, launched 3 singles to the market: “Responde”, “Mas” and “Sólo Existes Tu”. All three tracks climbed to the very top in Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Ecuador, Argentina, Peru and Colombia. In Brazil alone, he has sold over 100,000 records in less than 6 months.

Diego is currently working on his second album. This record which will show case the Diego that he is, just because he can’t do it differently. His album will come out towards the end of 2007, simultaneously all over the world. He has more than 50 concerts scheduled for 2007, including live shows in Brazil, Chile, Mexico, United States, Romania, Ecuador, Peru, Colombia and Spain. It is just enough to see Diego live with his band to understand the artistic level that he is accomplishing on a daily basis.

To conclude, I invite you to go to his concerts, and see what I am talking about. You will easily see his commitment to each one of his fans (who he calls friends)… you will see his spirit… and most importantly, you will learn something that’s priceless… “dreams come true if you believe in them”. Diego, thanks for sharing all of this with us… you truly rock and roll!
