Free Studio Time

I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Have a band that's ready to record a demo but not ready to pay for it? Are you a seasoned professional interested in working in an exciting, youthful environment surrounded by the future of audio engineering? Do you like the idea of recording your next project in professional grade recording studios? Is this too good to be true? Read on...Expression College for Digital Arts in Emeryville is one of the largest recording and production facilities in California, but we are a school, rather than a commercial recording studio. We offer free studio time to musicians who are willing to participate in recording labs with our students. We are looking for anyone interested, from solo artists just starting out to seasoned touring professionals. We offer a variety of different packages, from a simple four-hour session resulting in a roughly mixed demo, to a full-on nine week album project. We offer 24 track analog recording in our SSL & Neve studios, as well as digital recording in our Heptagon and SSL 9000 studio. The majority of the sessions we offer are for ensembles. Typically this means Bass, Drums, guitars, keys, vocals, and/or any other auxiliary instrumentation. Minimally the rhythm section (for basic tracking sessions) must include a traditional drum set (micing a drumset and dialing in the tone is a large focus of our recording program) and one other instrument (typically bass), ideally it would be at least 3 pieces (drums, bass, + guitar or keys for example). We do also have a limited number of solo artist sessions for singer-songwriters, which may also be used for completing overdubs on unfinished work (adding vocals to sequences or music beds etc). The style of music is not important, however the proficiency of the players is considered, and their attitude/vibe is of paramount importance.
