Well what can we say about this studio that hasn’t been said? Well giving it that old community college try, I would have to say that recording at this studio, high in the hills above the Pacific Ocean in Malibu is just about the most pleasurable experience a musician can have. Not only does the studio have everything you need to sound at your absolute best, but there is an ease that comes over you as you begin to track. The great sounds and great views are only superseded by one thing:
Having Geza-X & Paul Roessler sitting next to you, enjoying making music.
We’ve recorded for many hours up there, it’s almost surreal. You get this chance to leave the dirty city for the rolling hills and clean air of The Malibu Hills. So there you are, feeling good, and excited to begin tracking. Then it hits, the notes sound amazing in the hands of Geza and Paul. You start wondering if it’s the clean air.. the elevation…the deer or coyotes somewhere on the hills outside? No, it hits you: it’s the years of experience and love for music that these guys have making music. Not only that, but you also realize that these guys know how to make those sounds that get people’s feet moving or tickle their ears. This tends to be very important to your career…
As a musician, I believe that when you find knowledgeable cats who know sound and emotion, who are willing to share with you the vastness of their knowledge (so you may also learn), you can’t go wrong. These are guys who understand that the old industry is dying (and possibly dead by the time you finish this passage). And will help guide you to a place of self confidence and vision for the future. You will record at Satellite Park. You will exit the studio with the best mixes you’ve ever created…with their help that is.
Really, after making a lot of records, it’s the mixes we’ve done at Satellite Park which have taken our band its furthest, have received the most airplay, & have landed in TWO Number One Movies, and simply have made us happy. CAKECUTTER will ALWAYS work at Satellite Park with Geza and Paul.

MEREDITH BROOKS click on image
Meredith Brooks was introduced to Geza by Barbara Baker, ex-wife of producer Roy Thomas Baker. Geza liked her music but thought she lacked a hit, something modern. Meredith disappeared for a while, during which time she collaborated with Shelly Piken (now writing for Christina Aguilera, etc). What she brought back was “Bitchâ€. Geza says: “After I scraped my jaw off the floor, I realized we had our hit.†They spent the next week recording the track together. The night Geza was putting together the rough mixes, Capitol A&R exec Perry-Watts Russell droppped in for a visit. Nervously sidling up to Geza, Perry asked “What are you going to do with this track?†Geza said they were planning to shop it the next day. Well, Perry marched into the living room where Meredith was resting and signed her on the spot! A textbook Hollywood success story if there ever was one.
ELLIOT SMITH
click on image Sadly, Elliot Smith's last record "Basement On The Hill" was recorded at Satellite Park . He lived on the premises for 6 weeks, often referring to the upstairs studio as the basement on the hill and ended up naming his record after it. We have worked with a lot of artists at Satellite Park but I can honestly say we were all in awe of Elliot. He will be sorely missed...
NINA HAGEN
What can you say about Nina Hagen? One of the great talents and voices and beauties and souls of her generation...of course I'm a little biased, I've worked with her for 25 years!!! The divine Ms Hagen has recorded (and filmed!) many times at Satellite Park and it's always an amazing experience...watching her face is as spectacular as listening to her voice! I guess last time was when she recorded vocals for her last Big Band album...yes Nina has done two Big Band albums released in Germany...singing standards!
Having her on the other side of the glass...singing into our U47...it's like having a small hurricane in the tracking room!!! PR
The FreQuencies click on image Satellite Park? Geza X recorded The Germs and The Dead Kennedys. What the hell more do you want? And Paul Roessler, the former Screamer? Aces! That cat made us feel right at home right off the bat. He was no-b.s. Efficient, but always open to new ideas and experimentation. And he just might have ESP. Roessler practically seemed to read our damn minds! Eerie. And the studio itself? Straight from the fridge, dad. Got yer claws locked into an analog/digital debate? Well, quit yer yappin' and dig the fact that Satellite Park splits the digi-log hair and finds the sweet spot between the two. We had a total gas recording there. The equipment was top-notch, and Paul instinctively knew which vintage mics would capture the real gone sound we make. And the best part? Roessler didn't discriminate against time travelers and our demanding more noise, noise, NOISE! If we're lyin', we're dyin'. Viva Satellite Park! The Late Jack Spade, Tucker Hart, & Q

BURNT CHURCH THE OPERA click on image
Jeff Parker and I spent over a year working on this project...it grew into a mammoth concept album, loaded with soundbites from political and artistic figures, shredding songs, bizarre sonic textures... a unique piece...

GENE LOVES JEZEBEL click on image
Michael Aston came up with his band Gene Loves Jezebel to record the "God is Dead" album. What blew me away is that he would IMPROVISE his lyrics!!! He felt writing them down in advance would take the life out of them...so he would start singing with only the most general idea of what he was going to say and by the end he would have an amazing song! Knowing that, go listen now!!!
ERIC GALES click on image
Eric Gales wanted to be a rapper. Unfortunately, he was also a scorching guitarist who sounded so much like Jimi Hendrix that Jimi’s own family thought he might be The Reincarnation or something. Thus he was signed to the Hendrix label on MCA. Eric came to Satellite Park with his fiancee. And yes, the stories are true--Geza gave them the wedding ring they got married with and rescued Eric from bugs, which he was terrified of due to some childhood trauma. Psychology and record production are often the same thing! The album “That’s What I Am†never sold very well—the label failed to grasp the striking, modern rock sound Geza and Eric came up with. But it stands as one of the best records ever to come out of Satellite Park.
TYLER HILTON click on imageTyler Hilton was discovered by Geza’s manager, Victoria Blake. They wanted a demo to take to major labels. Geza interviewed Tyler for hours before thay began recording, to find out what would be the right career direction for a first song. The demo slam-dunked a deal with Maverick. They subsequently recorded several songs for the first album and Tyler is now building a succesful acting career as well. In a peculiar twist of synchronicity, it turned out that Tyler’s uncle Tommy, a fantastic musician in his own right, had built part of Satellite Park!
THE BANGKOK DIALTONES
Who needs a band when you're in the studio with Paul Roessler? Not me! Paul grabbed the dirty wet rag from my cranial vault and squeezed out some freaky honey. Satellite Park is an effervescent and sparkling place not unlike other places one might consider to be described in this manner.
