Gillian Rivers is a classical violinist/string arranger and orchestrator who has lately been working on her own album, but has also been in the studio playing viola for Pete Kember (aka Spacemen 3's "Sonic Boom") on a new record for the band "Cheval Sombre." She has been recording a soundtrack with TV on the Radio for the documentary, "The Lottery," recording and/or performing with MGMT (for their latest upcoming record, "Congratulations"), performing live with her ensemble, The City Strings, at Radio City with the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, as well as recording and arranging strings for their latest record, "It's Blitz" (the deluxe edition). She has appeared and/or arranged for artists such as Amazing Baby, the Silversun Pickups (live on MTV.com), Mono (with the Wordless Music Orchestra), Harper Simon, The Pierces, TV on the Radio, Nicole Atkins, Leona Naess, and many others. You can also hear her sing/play on Russell Simins + Dan the Automator's album, "Men Without Pants" on the tracks, "My Balloon," and "All You Need is Luck" at www.myspace/menwithoutpants. Recently she performed in LA with Harper Simon and Becky Stark of Lavender Diamond. Also, a few months ago, she performed with Nicole Atkins on The Late Show with David Letterman, Late Night with Conan O’Brian, and Later with Jools Holland in London. The songs above are apart of her pre-solo album material, which continues to record on her own. Aside from her pop involvements, she frequently performs as a part of orchestras such as “The Wordless Music Orchestra,†which, earlier this year in New York premiered Jonny Greenwood’s “Superhet Popcorn Receiver,†a.k.a., the soundtrack to “There Will be Blood.†Also, she has arranged strings for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Harper Simon, Nicole Atkins, The Pierces, Karen O, and others.A native of Rochester, NY, she attended Eastman Preparatory School, and went on to earn her bachelors Degree at Oberlin Conservatory of Music, where she served as concertmaster of the Oberlin Contemporary Music Ensemble.HEAR HER STRING ARRANGEMENTS ON IT'S BLITZ!
