Just announced for I AM FESTIVAL 2008:
JAY REATARD headlines this year's I Am Festival! The Memphis garage-punk icon has gone from underground status to absolute star in the past year, after releasing the incredible Blood Visions LP and his recent Singles collection and a slew of 7" for Matador Records. This will be quite the exclusive performance, with Jay taking a minute out of his busy recording schedule in Memphis to play some of his hits and maybe a few exclusive tracks that will show up on his forthcoming album! Jay also shows up on the new Beck single for "Gamma Ray," covering the song on the B-side. You don't wanna miss this... his set is widely known for being a garage rock onslaught, playing his two-minute songs in a row, no break, for a hefty 45 minutes! That's probably about 25 songs or so! This show will kick your ass!
KIDZ IN THE HALL will perform a very special set at I AM FESTIVAL 2008. It's rare when New London sees independent artists that somehow make it to the promotion holy land AKA Total Request Live on MTV. The only group to tour with both of this summer's hottest hip hop tours - Rock The Bells and Paid Dues Tour, Kidz In The Hall should be well-versed in festival culture by the time they hit I AM. Check out their blazin' hot single "Drivin' Down The Block" featuring friends Clipse and The Cool Kids!
MARTHA WAINWRIGHT will perform a very special solo set at I Am Festival 2008. This gifted singer-songwriter is the sister to a little known guy named Rufus Wainwright and daughter of the brilliant Loudon Wainwright III. Her new record, I Know You're Married, But I've Got Feelings Too, is a brilliant record, getting outstanding reviews from Pitchfork and the such. This performance comes on the heels of her upcoming performance at Radio City Music Hall with Goldfrapp.
ONEIDA is a four-piece rock band from Brooklyn, New York. Their influences include psychedelic rock, krautrock, and hard rock, but the overall structure and intent of their music cannot be easily traced to any of these styles, or the myriad other styles they have drawn upon in recordings. In June 2008, it was announced that the band would be releasing a triptych of new records, referred to as the "Thank Your Parents" series. The first of these is Preteen Weaponry, which was released in August 2008, and the second is Rated O, due in January 2009.
OAKLEY HALL is no stranger to New London. The alt-country sextet has made their rounds in New London in the midst of their much larger tours, supporting artists such as Bright Eyes and Cake. Their latest album, I'll Follow You, has made many "Best Of 2007" lists in such publications as Time Out New York, The Washington Post and HARP Magazine.
FATAL FILM will officially release their debut album proper, Thrill'r, at I Am Festival and mark the occasion with a very special performance. The New London boys released the brilliant Sisterwife EP earlier this summer and have been playing plenty of shows in support of the record. They recently were invited to have a residency at NYC's Pianos. This performance will mark a new era for Fatal Film!
THE SUICIDE DOLLS have been at it for years, promoting New London to the outside world, promoting the outside world to New London and making amazing friends and contacts on the way. They will perform at I Am Festival on the heels of their US tour. This psychedelic trio stormed Sailfest with an incredible set - loud, chaotic and dark. You do not want to miss these guys tear up the I Am Festival stage!
More to be announced throughout the weekend!!! Stay tuned!!!
