Why Joe Walsh deserves respect:
Yeah, yeah, so he plays that stuff for the Eagles, but I first saw him at a soundcheck in a college bar in Athens, Ohio. He was noodling on something that became The Bomber...
I was playing in a Columbus band at the time and I had no idea who he was, but I quickly realized that if I had to do a "Battle of the Bands" with him that I was going to get my ass handed to me. Joe Walsh in 68/69 was a force of nature!
Since then I've seen him dozens of times; with the James Gang, Barnstorm, and whatever friends he'd cobble together and put on a stage and I've always been amazed at the notes that he *doesn't* play. A very, very tasteful player!
My only regret is that I was so young and intimidated that I never had the courage to go up and talk to him during the breaks...
