John Cavanaugh has been taking serious concert photographs for more than 12 years. He concentrates on the Jersey Shore area but has captured moments in New York City, Philly, Cleveland, and parts of Europe as well.
His photos have been published in a number of tri-state area newspapers, Rolling Stone and Backstreets magazines, as well as other respected national and European publications. His photos are complementary and their availability to the public has been encouraged by the subject artists.
In the early '90s, John started taking concert photos down the Jersey shore just to have something to remember the shows by. As time went by, people started to ask for copies of his photos from those nights. Then, he got to know different fan clubs in the U.S. and Europe that also wanted photos for their magazines. It kept going from there.
John got to know and work with a lot of the local bands, getting to know their managers and promoters. He currently works with many artist fan clubs around the world, including Backstreets, Ties That Bind, Point Blank and many others. His work also appears in newspapers like the Newark Star Ledger and the Asbury Park Press. His work can also be found on many news, music and fan web sites. His photography has been displayed at the Cleopatra Steps Out Gallery in Asbury Park.
When the Stone Pony reopened in May 2000, the new owner of the Stone Pony, Domenic Santana, asked John to be one of the Official Photographers for the club. At the legendary Asbury Park rock club, John has been able to photograph artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Southside Johnny, Jon Bon Jovi, Jerry Lee Lewis, Hootie and the Blowfish, John Eddie, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band, The Wallflowers, Pat Benatar, Gary U.S. Bonds, Patti Smith, Steve Earle and many more. Many of these photographs can be found on the Pony's official website, www.stoneponyonline.com.
John also enjoys photographing the rich history of Asbury Park. From the boardwalk to the old amusement buildings and many other photos around town.
