Syreeta! (Born Syreeta Archie on April 8th, 1985 in Philadelphia, PA) Has an eclectic sound similar to neo-soul, R&B, hip hop, rock, funk, and jazz. She is named after the late great singer Syreeta Wright whose works include songs with Billy Preston and Stevie Wonder (to whom she was married to). After becoming a classically trained vocalist; Syreeta’s appreciation and passion for all genres of music grew. Influenced early on by singers such as Teena Marie, Gladys Knight, Minnie Ripperton and countless others, Syreeta became influenced to become a singing/songwriting. • Biography While a high school student at Alief Hastings High School Syreeta began taking singing more serious. She joined the school, choral and gospel choir. She began taking outside voice lessons and recorded her first song written by herself (My Time, (24-7)) at the age of 15. She always had a passion for writing. Syreeta wrote her first song (Friends) with her cousin Wendy at the early age of 7. She also wrote poetry and after realizing that she could turn her poems into songs, she started writing a song everyday. Once a high school graduate, Syreeta went on to college, but her adoration for music would not cease. Since she wanted to concentrate on music full-time, she decided to take a small hiatus to focus on her career in music. She worked fulltime to support herself and recorded her own written songs with the extra money she had left. Her lyrics are highly personal emotions. She writes about feelings some women may not reveal, an example would be her hit single “Persistence” a story where the woman was wrong in the relationship and becomes desperate to have her love back. She mixes her childhood influences with her own personal style and swagger creating a rich texture of sound. In many aspects she remains the quintessential Southern Siren. Because of her vocal range and musical style she is often compared, to Toni Braxton and Amel Larrieux. She writes about real life situations and challenges the world is facing. Whether it is relationship themed or world conscious lyrics, she is not afraid to take you there to get her point across. She thrives to have longevity in her career, she feels it is imperative to stay true to who you are. She is known for going right when everyone is going left, and her music is a perfect example of that.
