HI,my names Ian Kenyon old skool Dj/Club promoter ,i came up with the idea for the ORIGINAL official QUADRANT PARK reunions in 2005 and also the first 1989 "state" DAISY Revisited event then hooked up with VOODOO and put on a MENTAZAM room a new old skool acid/techno prog nite , i also own the website's quadrantpark.com + backtotheoldpool.com...MY music history, My love for dance music began in 1987 but was heavily influenced by the good times i spent clubbing in Quadrant Park Bootle during 1990-91 , In late 1991 I bought my 1st pair of Technics determined to teach myself to Mix. Almost 12 months later my confidence was rewarded with offers of DJing work in local bars around Huyton, Whiston & Prescot. also around this time in late 1992 along with my mate Nige morgan we opened our 1st RECORD SHOP called RED HOT VINYL in the Liverpool Palace selling second hand rare dance 12"s ,The opening of Red Hot Vinyl’s doors led to the opening of a few other doors 1st came a dj guest spot playing at Tommy Foleys old skool Night called “CLUB CLASSIC” @ the old Flintlocks Club on wood street. warming up for people like Dj Nipper this was also were i 1st djd alongside Mike Knowler who paid me a boss compliment saying “you played a great set ”this spurred me on even more and i was offered a weekly residency that ran for several months...................................................... ..........................................................In early 1994 I was asked by club reviewer, Peter Kelly, to play “L-Scene” Magazines 1st Birthday Bash, @ Circle Club (now the Zanzibar)along side LUV-DUP & Girls on Top. Other gigs followed,Steve Parry asked me to play classics night at Crosby Marina called “Sunday Night Fever”,a weekly residency@Prescot Pub The Eagle & Child along with other various dj gigs,Charity Nights at the Beat bar ect. after leaving the record shop in 1995 to concentrate on DJing I also cultivated a sizeable mail order business selling rare classic vinyl – if i couldn’t find what you wanted nobody could....................................................... ..........................................................So on I started to miss the frontline of the business and the people and the contacts I,d made, so in 1997 I opened our second RECORD SHOP selling rare dance ,this time called "KONTRABAND" Records ,again in the Liverpool Palace ,around this time i was asked again by peter kelly to play a benefit night in support of the striking Liverpool dockers alongside DJ LAYDEE at the G-Bar .the shop ran for almost 2 years until it was sold and renamed Plastic records ,during this period i hooked up with Steve Parry again as he was starting a small weekly friday progressive house night in The Lemon Lounge called ALDERAAN with mike owen,this showcased some of todays superstar prog DJs big such as DANNY HOWELLS + ANTONY PAPPA ,LEE BURIDGE , JAMES ZABILIA ect ,i helped out with promotions and running of the door ect for many years....................................................... ........................................................Unfo rtunatley in early 2001 a horrific near fatal car crash forced a long break from the local dance scene, but with my family,friends and a determination to overcome my injuries and get back to normallity plus a phenomenal knowledge of dance music amassed over the years it was certain i’d return. And return i did in late 2002 with the cool www.quadrantpark.com, a web site dedicated to the place i first found that love of dance music. The massive interest in the website brought me back into contact 3 Beat Records and an old friend Mick (DJ PLUTO) who was starting an Old Skool Nite called HazyDayz around the same time, so there began Liverpools latest Old Skool revival..................................................... .......................................................... The continuing success of the quad website also brought a return to DJing when during an interview on Radio City Lee Butler asked if id be interested in doing a Classics Night in the V.I.P. Room @ Club 051,I did this night with DJ Pluto & Mike Knowler, it went well + was the 1st of many such bi-monthly nights there until the closure of the 051. Around the same time I was asked by Les Calvert to play at a weekly classics friday night in the back room in Garlands called "Disco Junkies" for several weeks till it finished late 2005. more gigs followed inc REMINICSE alongside oldskool legend DJ VERTIGO, Ive provided several Guest DJ mixes on Radio City and Juice FM and helped assist Dave Graham as music researcher for his Radio City “Feel Good Friday” show ,i also DJd at his birthday bash in the Courtyard @ NATION home of CREAM in June 2006(check out the clip in my videos)..................................................... ............................................................ .I took the tentative step towards promoting my own QUAD event for the first time in summer 2005, this was MY 1st Quad Classic night in Southport on a Sunday night May bank holiday weekend ,this event was a massive success and sold out with 100s of clubbers turned away.The success of this led to thinking that there was a need for proper massive Quadrant Park Reunion and so it began in March 2006 becoming the most talked about night in Liverpool , these events became almost as legendary as the original nites in 90-91 with several sell out nights with upto 2000 people attending each time , these had the original headline dj line up plus PAs from DREAM FREQUENCY , NJOI , K KLASS , TOGETHER and more recently i worked with Maggie from SCARLET FANTASTIC @ my other old skool event DAISY REVISITED !! in JUNE 2007 i also put on my very 1st boat party called QUADRANT "ARK" on board the mersey ferry ,its been so great to work with some of my DJ heros who moved + inspired me all those years ago to be the person i am today plus other djs inc STEVE PROCTOR ,im now working alongside 3 BEAT RECORDS co promting a new OLD SKOOL event based around the LIVERPOOL clubscence from the last 20 years called quite simply "BACK TO THE OLD POOL " , these events took place @ The LIVERPOOL CARLING ACADEMY with all the worlds legendary PAs +djs inc THE GODFATHERS OF HOUSE "MARSHALL JEFFERSON" FAST EDDIE , STEVE SILK HURLEY ,JOE SMOOTH , JESSE SAUNDERS PA from CE CE ROGERS F.P.I.
