Chapter 1 – The TempleThe night devoured the city. It seeped into every pore and crack; it covered the entirety of the metropolis. It was a cloak whose fabric suffocated those residents still brave enough to wander after dark. This evil umbriance emanated from the least likely of sources. A Temple of God, located near the center of the city. Not just any temple, but The Temple of God. Ironic how the people’s hope for salvation had turn corrupt, becoming the instrument of their doom. Inside sat a lone individual, a priest, if you dare called him a priest. As quick to curse as to bless, he was more a shaman than a clergyman. Yet this drab little man of the cloth, with his small crescent glasses, held the key to both the deliverance and the destruction of the populous. A room lit by candelabra contained scattered instruments and artifice of the past eras. The causes of the holy wars, the utensils of the heathens, a medal of Caesar, the bones of saints; Holy Relics and Unholy Remnants meticulously placed upon a wooden table, waiting to be catalogued. Staring down upon this scene of holiness and blasphemy were two faces untouched by time for centuries; the magnum opus of some unnamed sculptor of old. They were alike yet utterly different. Born of the same stone and carved by the same hand, yet they were both endowed with the spiritual essence of their creator.
