Brett Costello has been a tastemaker in the Perth R&B/Hip Hop scene for almost 15 years.***
Bretts enthusiasm for the freshest new black music has taken him on a journey including stops at community Radio stations 6NR and KCR fm, commercial Radio with the groundbreaking R&B Bounce on 96fm in 2002, for four years Urban Essentials on Nova 93.7 alongside Nick Alexander and most recently you can catch him every Sunday night from 9pm on Nova 93.7 for R&B Shortkutz.***
In the clubs Brett has represented at most of Perths influential club nights, most notably the long-running Lick party series so successful during the late 90s though to 2003. Residencies and guest sets along the way have included Polygons, Mangoes, Orsinis, Buzz Bar, Bar Rumba, Margeaux, Bon Bonet, Pallas Studio Lounge, Klub Yum Yum, The Big Apple, Varga Lounge, Caramel Sundae @ Ambar, The Glasshouse, $elebrity @ Metro City and more. Brett also ran and promoted the underage Ghetto Jam series that provided all ages Hip Hop nights to Perth for 8 years from 1995-2003, often attracting over 1000 people.***
Invited to be an Aria club chart reporting DJ some years back, Brett has also voted in the urban category for the Aria Awards.***
Currently Brett plays regular fortnightly guest spots at Onyx Bar on Friday nights and The Gold Bar in Subiaco every second Wednesday. He also presents "The Soul Night Out", a quality event promoting R&B and Soul every long weekend.
Bretts club sets combine R&B and funky Hip Hop, Soul, smooth mixing and fresh scratching. Most of all you know its going to be upfront. As an importer of overseas vinyl, a member of Europes premier DJ Pool and regular trips to the US and UK to stock up on the freshest sounds, Brett is always dropping the latest tracks and hottest hits around.***
