There's not much I want to say about myself, I'd rather let the music do the talking. D Minor 7 is my production aka, most people know me by my dj name, Damented. I'm one of the founding members of the Belgian dj crew Killa Tactics, but I was a musician before I became a turntable fiend. And I was a music fiend before I became a musician. I grew up on a mix of hiphop, rock, pop, soul, funk, reggae and a little jazz. Around age 16 I traded my bass guitar for a set of turntables, as a figure of speech. I became a vinyl addict, and started a collection that's ever growing - nowadays I mostly listen to hiphop, dub, soul, drum'n'bass, electro and dancehall.My own music is as diverse as the records I put on; on any given day, I'll probably work on a grimy hiphop beat, then switch to a heavy UK dub riddim, to end it off with a smooth soul joint. For years, I've focused on hiphop, putting together tracks for local artists such as Sanctum, Riot Squad, Rival, Mata, Mellow P, Baz, Amok, Carloz, Ducktape, Garres, Phillibustas and Morsdood, but also for Narco (UK), Shockwave (Holland), Nigga Poison (Portugal/Cabo Verde) and E&E (Holland). In october 2004 I started a project entitled 'Networking', a compilation featuring just about all the rappers and singers I ever worked with. 'Networking' was released online in april 2007. You can still download the album for free at www.networking-v1.net . Check out my website for my full discography with some audio snippets. I haven't gotten around to putting out anything other than hiphop for some reason, although I've always been about more than just the boom bap.
At the moment I'm mostly working on dub tracks with Soul Remedy, we have some collaborations underway with singers from around the UK. I'm also planning to get started on a vocal soul album combining samples and live instruments.
I'm pretty much all about software, but I do still use live guitar, bass and digidrums here and there. My main production tools are Reason and Cubase, I use Adobe Audition for wave editing and post-production. Here's a little rundown of the goodies in my studio:
