About Me
node1 are Jost Menke and Oliver Grunau. Both of them have their deep roots in electronic music, but with different background.Jost Menke was infiltrated with electronic sounds in the mid 70ies, when acts like Jean-Michel Jarre and Kraftwerk were doing their pioneer work. At that time, electronic music sounded totally different from anything he had ever heard, so he was deeply impressed by this extraordinary sensation. Jost was always being supported by his father, who was into electronic music right from the start and who fed him with all kinds of weird sounds. Jost Menke began to produce electronic music himself in the second half of the 80ies, starting off with little equipment, basically using an Amiga computer and a sampling device. In the beginning of the 90ies, when techno emerged and a whole new world opened in terms of music, he founded the project "Cyberlab", which was a dutch/german cooperation. Cyberlab had 2 releases on the Cologne label Bionic Beat Records and toured all across Germany with the biggest event being "Paradise City" in Cologne with 15.000 visitors. They were seen together with top-acts like Hardfloor, Westbam, Oliver Lieb and others.
Oliver Grunau came across electronic music for the first time with tracks like "Das Model", "Fade To Grey" and "Cambodia". Soon, in the mid 80ies, he started his first own productions. In early ..88, he joined the electro-wave project "Dying Art". They were musically influenced by the electronic underground of the wave scene, which was formed by bands like Skinny Puppy, The Klinik and Frontline Assembly. In 1989, Oliver started a solo- project named "Ladungsträger". His tracks were frequently played at the "Kalei", a ..1 scene-club located in Essen, Germany. In 1990, Oliver Grunau was also taken by the techno wave, nevertheless he closed the producer-chapter till 1999. Then he met Jost Menke, found musical convergence and put his hands back on the machines again. node1 was born...
