Matt Lindstrom started playing the guitar in the summer before his freshman year in high school. He heard a few songs on the radio and started to play some of them by ear based on some of the basic chords his dad had taught him. One of the first songs he remembers playing was Nirvana’s, “Come As You Are.†Although Matt was not a huge Nirvana fan, they had sparked something that would stick with Matt through the years. Matt would spend the majority of his high school years playing along to cds of his favorite bands, Green Day, Smashing Pumpkins, Metallica, Foo Fighters, and others. One of his biggest early influences was MxPx, who gave him his foundation of guitar ability, teaching himself all of the fast paced helter-skelter progressions.
In high school, Matt found himself playing at his local church youth group with two of his friends, which now make up Cogent, the ambient rock band out of southern NH. It wasn’t until January of 2006, Matt’s last year in college, that he gathered them up on winter break, and they put together six or seven original songs that matt had written while at school in VA. Since then, Matt has been writing, playing shows, in Mass, Connecticut, New York, and putting together a solid fan base in the New England area.
Matt’s songs are filled with heartfelt, engaging lyrics that tell of love, heartache, loss, and hope, and his hope is that you will find solace in his songs, eventually sing along, but most of all, enjoy his music as he puts his heart on display.
