Irish Trad Music - Keep it alive !!
"News October '09"We're now on Facebook. So look us up.... From November onwards, we're playing Sunday night on, Sunday night off in Fibber's. Our thanks go out to the lovely people of Ahoghill GAA.... and Paddy... for their hospitality and support on Saturday 10th Oct. We thoroughly enjoyed the gig... and the food was good too....
"Our trip to Ibiza, April '09"What a fantastic trip we had in Ibiza with Enjoy Travel ! We didn't get any sleep at all between gigs and dancing and sessions. What a class way to spend a week ! Music was fabulous and it was a pleasure to meet up and play with the other musicians. We were in heaven..... The Sirenis Club Aura hotel was superb and the waiters quite delicious... well so the boys in the band said. Me and Clo had no opinions on the matter...... Ha ! Here's the censored photos...Oh! Enjoy Travel are now on myspace as well, see our "Friends" below.
"Our gig in Larne, March '09"Thanks to Rachel and all in Larne Museum for having us on the 13th March for a rousing night. Music, songs, Irish dancing, story-telling and food. Yum Yum ! Something for everybody. Here's a handful of photos taken by their resident photographers. Many thanks.
"The Band"We're back now to being a 5 piece band, with the addition of Brian "BabyFace" McCoy on Bass, playing regularly in the best, biggest tourist bar in Central Belfast, Fibber Magees. at the back of Robinson's, opposite the Europa. For dates see above. There's never a dull night in the place. It's always leapin' with people from The U.S., Australia, Canada , Colombia, and even Ardoyne! Memorable nights include the night of the 10 German Naval officers in full dress uniform, the night of the Dutch rugby team, the night of the Canadian Ice Hockey team, the night of the Canadian Naval officers from Halifax N.S, the night the Kiwi did the Haka..... well those are my personal highlights... and Clo would agree with me.... The lads probably have loads of others involving scantily clad weemin and hen parties. Your secrets are safe with us.....
Come and hear us play. We cover everything from "Whiskey in the Jar" to "House of the Rising Sun" and "Moondance". And mix that in with some driving tunes and slow airs. You might even get a classical piece from the Tupperware violin !See our official website www.darraghfolk.co.uk
A few photos....."The Paul Phillips Perpetual Trophy"
In July 2008, we presented a trophy, in Paul's memory, to the Ulster Fleadh Committee for the the winner of the Ulster over 18 bodhran champion. Here's a few photos......
"Tribute night for our late, great bodhran player, Paul Phillips"
I just want to say thank you to everybody who supported us in any way at our tribute night for Paul (RIP) in the Great Hall in Downpatrick on the 9th February '08. And thank you to Thomas and Brendan for treating us so well at that excellent venue. Thanks too, to everybody who put up raffle prizes for the night. We had a great night's entertainment and a fitting tribute to our bodhran player.
The night went fantastically well. We got a good turnout and great support for the acts.
Patricia Daly
with Mary O'Neill, David Cunningham and
Paul Marshall
started the night. We followed that with
Brendan Monaghan
, who is my hero on pipes and whistle. Darragh Folk/
Reely Jiggin
started the 2nd half and we were followed by
The Rooney Family ,
who played a whopper of a set. Donna Murray did MC and read out wee tributes about Paul that people had mailed me. My husband Gerry read the Ballad of the World Bodhran champion - written by Ian from Darragh Folk (can be got from
www.darraghfolk.co.uk
). Cormac got into his cowboy suit and finished off the night. A great night both from an organisational point of view and from the audience's perspective. Something for everybody. We were very much focused on Paul, and the night was a celebration of him and what he meant to all of us.
Thank you to all.
