I love to travel: Venice, Italy is hands down my favorite city in the world. I already know Venice is where I'm retiring. I'm owning an apartment there one day. It might be a nice one, it might be a shitty one, but it's gonna be mine. Also, when you go to Europe, try to visit the cities that were on the eastern side of the Iron Curtain. They're so much more Old World. A lot of modern architecture fucked up some of the western cities, so if you want to see old Europe, visit a city like Budapest.
Second favorite is pretty much any place with a secluded, white sand, clear blue water beach. I can stay there for hours. After I strike it rich I'm buying an island in the Carribbean.
Traveling alone cross country on the Shinkansen in Japan is an experience I recommend to anyone. Also, after getting over altitude sickness, going to Tibet is like going back into a time machine/space shuttle. It's like another world. You need to visit before the Chinese government completely transforms it into "Himalayan Disneyland" though. Free Tibet.
I'm fascinated with history. Maybe that's why I like Venice so much: the history, and being on the water, together. My current reads are anything on World War II. But I also constantly buy any book on ancient mythology, preferably Greek. I was probably one of the only kids in school that actually read their history books. Love reading about English and Russian history, those fuckers were hogs back in the day. Of course, love the history channel. History of New Orleans and the bayou and that area interest me. Japanese history and culture is another interest. Tribes of Africa, the South Pacific islands, and the three ancient Latin civilizations are topics I'm always trying to learn more about.
Studying a country's predominant religion is a good way to begin learning about the culture of the place. People tend to focus on the differences in religions, but they all seem to tell us to do the same thing: be a good person by being a decent, honorable person. Respect life. Respect that the person next to you is someone's child, has emotions and a soul. Greed is never a good thing. I'm not a scholar on religion, but I've learned enough about several to make my own conclusions. It's strange how the fanatics of almost every religion get all the attention
