SOT&F are a 5 piece female fronted group from Carlisle. We play pop music fused with all shades of indie, ska, post-punk, reggae and prog. Formed in summer 2006 we have quickly outgrown our local Cumbrian/SW Scotland scene and concentrated on targeting key areas such as Manchester, Glasgow and Newcastle to relentlessly promote our music. We have resisted the option of any management thus far, carefully choosing the right shows to play and bands to play with. Without any label or management input we’ve played over 60 shows in the last 12 months with bands such as We Are Scientists, The Undertones, The Departure, Little Man Tate, Milburn, Pop-Up, The Sounds, Soho Dolls and Sonic Boom Six, as well as a number of headline shows throughout Cumbria. We’ve just been booked to play Solfest and Wickerman Festivals 2008 after a 600+audience support slot with We Are Scientists. ‘Temporary Thing,’ from our 2006 self released EP ‘Not Here To Shop’ was chosen by MTV2 as a soundtrack to their show ‘Wrecked’ and also by Roxy Girls Snowboarding in their promotional trailers this season. We don’t have a discernible ‘style’ or ‘look’ that all too regularly determines the success of many of todays chart acts, and as such we wont fall by the wayside of any cyclical trend in the market for alternative music. We have over an album’s worth of material which we’re desperate to be heard by the right people. Being from Carlisle has enabled us to build and sustain a loyal following throughout Cumbria but we need help to get to the next level and break the national scene properly, which we, and our supporters deserve.
"Standing in front of Stars Of Track & Field it quickly hits home that they, and very probably unknowingly so, are the best band in the region. Stars Of Track & Field are a band that have already jumped two steps ahead of their peers by making sounds that, in influence, geographically stand out. Give it a while and they’ll no longer be tagged as a ‘Carlisle-band’ but instead, one of the rising stars of the north."
Chay Woodman (News and Star)
"Thunderous bass and drums recall the North West's 80s postpunk heritage whilst Jeni's assertive, got-you-sussed-boys vocals have shades of punk rock heroines past and present ...impressive stuff."
Cath Aubergine (Manchester Music)
''Stars of Track and Field sound good on record, but go and see them live and they'll blow your socks off. What an asset to the Cumbrian music scene."
Andy Mackay (Generator)
"Singer Jeni displays hints of everything from PJ Harvey to Gwen Stefani, but she manages to retain her own sense of style too - one that basically blew Little Man Tate off stage."
Victoria Raimes (News and Star)
