Spisa is an organisation and club promoting young and creative jazz and improvised music in Sweden.
Our ambition is to question the way you listen to and consume jazz as well as to always look for new possible rooms, forms and ways to give jazz a new lager, louder and more welcoming than ever before.
In relation to musicians we wish to be a natural forum, a network and an open stage for musical experiments and the beautiful minds of creative people. For the audience we want to offer a possibility to step into the world of improvisational music where anything will and can happen. A door that is always open and welcomes every single ear to a place where you are the only judging force. We believe that the concept of quality is always subjective and that the definition of jazz is always changing and therefore pointless to encase.
At all of Spisas arrangements we give you a chance to listen to music that has the ambition to tell stories that reach out to touch our souls. For us working with Spisa, jazz has never been something to understand, but something to feel.
Weve been arranging clubs and concerts since 2002, mainly under the name Spisa, but also under different projects such as Jassfabriken, Den Större Klubben and Adventures in jazz and punkrock. Klubb Spisa at Jeriko in Malmö has since 2005 given the audience in the south of Sweden a chance to enjoy great shows including Klabbes Bank, Television Pickup, The Jolly Boat Pirates, Fredrik Kronqvist, Cecilia Nordlund and Vanessa Liftig. Great Dj:s from all over Sweden has visited us to give another dimension of the love of music.
Spisa is always expanding. The ideas and visions reached the capital, Stockholm, the summer of 2006 and since then Spisa have had a regular concert series at Sugar Bar in the inner city. The crowd of Stockholm has heard creative music made by international impro-fames such as Fedrik Ljungkvist, Lindha Kallerdahl, Susan Alcorn, David Stackenäs and Göran Greider.
