---We're a five piece ska band from Bergen County. Most of the time we like to play shows, write songs, eat at Wendy's, and play NHL Hitz 2003. (TEAM SKSC FOR LIFE)Sometimes we like each other. Most times we don't. There are people who apparently like our music and shows. We hope that you do to. and PJ HAS FOUR WIVES...and a beard.
------- Long Version
Okay so here's the deal. I'm going to try and do it year by year from what I can remember
-----2004:
Brad asks me to start a band together. I had only been playing guitar for 4 months, so i responded, "OKAY!!!!" We write our first punk hits, such as Willy Wonka, Jack of Hearts, and Flying Squirrels. NOTE: no drummer at the time.
-----2005:
We manage to coerce Steve Im to play trumpet (SKA SKA SKA) with us. He was our first asian. We practiced in Brad's driveway with me quickly switching from clean to distortion on my amp(no foot switch). We play our first gig at brad's Bar Mitzvah with his two friends from camp. That was interesting. My sister gets me into Streetlight Manifesto and I see them in October. Steve Im showed me Keasbey Nights, which begins the SkSc influences. Near the end of the year we start jamming with Armen, Luke, and Nick Prastos and were Garden State for most of 8th grade. (no SKA SKA SKA) Songs like Ben Latner (with the help of Luke of CMH) were written. NOTE: still no drummer
-----2006:
We get three different drummers. First was Dan Teitell, who just owned a drum set and lied to us when he said he could play. We (Brad, Steve Im, and I) jam with him for one night and learn he has no idea what he's doing. Next drummer (sorta) is Nick Prastos. He manages to keep a beat while we do a cover of Unity. It sounded like a notch above awful. Brad's first birthday bash begins in his basement. Then we played in Armen's basement as Garden State and a little of SkSc. Brad and I do a bunch of Taking Back Sunday covers with Armen and Nick and play in Nick's garage for one night. During this time cops come up to us and tell us to turn the volume down (cept for Hard Ass. he was the shit). We get our third drummer, Bryan Skop. He stays for a little bit. Sadly, i had to teach him drums, which meant he wasn't good as well. High School begins, and we get our second Asian (Donghee on sax). Brad and I leave Garden State and they get some real musicians to replace us. Our last show of the year was at Tommy Foxes. Songs like Bergenline, Falling Down, My Overkill, So Drown Her, and Why Can't I are written.
-----2007:
Brad's second birthday bash. This time at the Tenafly elks lodge. It was fun, even though we still played like crap. This was where we play So Drown her with Garden State. We play another show or two with Bryan till he leaves to do other things... So again, we were drummer less. And Steve Im left us cause he was asian. We get our next drummer, Adam Kampf. During this time we jammed out New Regime. We played one show with him and realized it wasn't working. So he leaves and we end freshmen year without a drummer. During the summer, Brad joins a punk band in which Zach Sandel was playing in. Brad manages to convince Zach to jam with us. Zach dragged P.J. who played bass in a differnt band Zach was in, to jam with us as well. They actually like our songs and made them not suck. Finally we had a good chemistry. During this time, songs like RAS, Ghost, Lock it Up, Guitar Hero, and Karl are written as well as re-writing Suburban Sense Of Peace. We play our first real gig at the Knitting Factory (with an out of tune guitar I KNOW PJ I KNOW!!!!!) We begin to record our first ep (The Pilot) with Rick Warren. This kid who plays baritone sax (let's call him Barry) joins and we have a six piece band (SKASKASKA). We end the year playing the first of many rounds of the Jersey Shows competition at the good ol' Mainstage. And we end the year as a real functioning band that didn't suck.
-----2008:
Brad's third annual Birthday Bash at the Elks Lodge. We play for about an hour with the Kenan and Kel theme song as an opener. At this show we release the Pilot. There we performed tunes like Modi and Suburban Sense of Peace. The more we played, the less people were there (thank you Mr. Singer for videotaping us!). The people who stayed apparently liked us a lot and keep reminding us of how that show was one of their favorite shows of all time. After a little bit, we feel that Barry wasn't really working out, so we decide to let him go. We continue playing shitloads of shows at the mainstage for two different botb (Jersey Shows and the Break). We have a little mini weekend tour where we play at mainstage and montclair state university on the same day and mainstage again the next day. This time Eric Holsten decides to be half in the band and play with us when he felt like it. At montclair we discover satanic cults. At the break we get interviewed by this dude in a room where we couldnt hear anything. And luke and josh tycko pretended to be in the band. the interview never surfaced the internet. During the 7th or so round we make it in like 3rd place or something and get to play at Starland Ballroom. yay. We start recording with Rick Warren again for our first full length, which we later decided against finishing. Around this time such songs as Good Image And A Decent Cash flow(La La), Breakdown, Cowboy and Prom were written. During this time we also start jamming with Elie (Color from the Fertilizers) accompanying us on synthesizer/keyboard in some songs. He plays a few local shows with us every now and then, mainly just for the fun of it, he doesn't become an official band member or anything like that. Then in July we play at Starland, get 2nd place, and move on to the Finals, at Starland again. And during the period between these two shows, we get offered to play at Starland yet again, this time at the Ska is Dead fest with Big D, Btmi, Mustard Plug, The Pietasters, The Toasters and so on. (SKAAAAAAAAAA) We end the competition in fourth place out of a 300 hundred bands or something. We go home with 700 bucks and spend a 100 of it at Harvest,(thanks Mr. Stern for the half off discount) a fancy restaurant where we pretend we were aristocrats(I wish we didn't do that). We also owed money for a broken mixer and microphone(sorry, about that Brian M.) and most of the money went towards that. We keep writing songs and jamming. Then we played at the Ska Is Dead show, which was one of the funnest shows I ever played, even though we weren't that great and zach's bass drum fell apart. We become kind of maybe semi friends with Jeff Rosenstock and stuff. We also hand out cds of songs we recorded with Rick Warren and Eric Holsten (lala and breakdown and more). The year ends with us playing in Elie's (from the Fertilizers) basement with our friends and their bands.
---And that's pretty much it. For now. hopefully this next year will be as fun as the past four years. And to the seven of you who will actually read the hour I put into this, remind me that I owe you a cookie.
