"A Sidereal Day" Full Length Album Out Now!!!

About Me

Formed in 2005, The Tripps, then a three-piece, scrounged its' way through the Virginia music scene by bringing to the table a different kind of blues. Though their fresh songwriting and New Orleans-esque grooves were a breath of fresh air for the guys, they strived to secure a foothold deeper than the sounds that rooted them.
2006 brought changes to the makeup of the band. After a year of traveling, performing, and a brief hiatus, they entered the studio to record what would be their debut e.p. entitled "Branch Out". After finishing the project with producer Tim Gault, singer/songwriter Sam Barrett moved to Los Angeles, CA for a brief stint in the entertainment capital of the world.
Gaining much experience and taking heed to the personal advice from singer/songwriter Ernie Halter, Sam returned to Virginia in July of '06. The Tripps released "Branch Out" on November 19th to rave reviews, earning them a nomination for "Best Pop Album of the Year" by Portfolio Magazine. The record release saw the beginning of the newest member, bassist Cameron King, as well as engineer Brandon Franze, to bring the band's sound to where it is today.
Now in 2008, the e.p. continues to sell greatly as the band released its' first full-length album entitiled "A Sidereal Day". The Tripps entered the studios again with producer Tim Gault at his Double-O Records, and finished the project for its' February 1st debut. Credits on the album include M.P. at Earthsound, as well as Ryan Berry of Foxtrot Rio, featuring his guitar work on several of the tracks.
This newly refurbished quartet is making waves in Hampton Roads and abroad with the eclectic mix of a free form jazz mentality, the soulful longing of a blues troupe and the live edge of an epic jamband. David Cuffee III, Greg Meekins, Sam Barrett, and Cameron King are the Tripps.

“The Tripps are, well, a trip. Of course, it's too easy for a reviewer to hide behind a bad joke, so let's just say that this band knows how to get it on and light up the night with a brilliant groove.”
- A&R Select
"An eclectic mix of acoustic based pop mirroring John Mayer, rhythmic jazz and funk. 'The 757' is the obvious party anthem and takes listeners on a lyrically guided tour through the streets of Hampton Roads."
- Jeff Maisey, The Virginian-Pilot
"The future is looking bright for The Tripps. The group creates its sound by unifying blues, pop and jazz with smooth vocals. The result is ear-gasmic."
- Christina Licud, The Mace & Crown, Old Dominion University
"Branch Out" is probably the best debut i have seen by any local band thus far. The 7 track album is overflowing with jazz undertones and latin influences on top of everything from straight forward rock songs with a plethora of deep lyrics, to songs featuring body moving beats, to more broken down and beautiful soft songs that really let the saxophone take the spotlight. The technical drumming and booming bass keep the band steady and create a rhythm section unmatched in the seven cities. The quality is major label status and the song choices are all worth the time and ears of the listener."
- Relative Theory Records, Norfolk Va
"The Tripps play a blend of pop, blues and jazz. Last month their seven-song debut CD, "Branch Out," came out, giving fans an interesting view of Hampton Roads with the song 'The 757.' "
- Patty Jenkins, The Virginian-Pilot
