Derelict May

About Me

Derelict May was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. His father was a hard-working single parent who held down the surprisingly high-paying position of automobile ashtray installer. Young Derelict spent much of his childhood crying to sad calypso records that his father owned. One fateful day, Derelicts father gave him $300 to go down to the local pawnshop and pick up an ultra-rare Harry Bellefonte L.P. for him. However, upon entering the shop Derelict found himself instantly drawn to the beautiful black plastic cabinet of an almost brand-new Yamaha DX-7. Without thinking, Derelict instinctively held up three fingers and struck a chord on the famed FM synth. He then grabbed the pitch wheel and manipulated it wildly. Upon hearing the results, tears welled up in Derelicts eyes and streamed down his face. Why should I cry to other peoples tracks, Derelict thought to himself When I can buy this thing and make my own tracks to cry to? Unfortunately, Derelicts father did not share his sons enthusiasm. After beating Derelict within an inch of his life, he ran back to the pawnshop to see if the DX-7 could be exchanged for the Bellefonte record, but alas, it had already been sold. The disappointment of being rendered Bellefonteless soon turned into severe depression, causing Derelicts father to be unable to perform his ashtray installing duties properly. He was fired before long and eventually died of a broken heart. Derelict was left completely distraught and penniless. Within months he had become a full-fledged street-dwelling, crackwhore-peddling derelict, his only solace found at the end of a glass pipe and the pitch wheel of his beloved DX-7
