Bohemian in spirit with a touch a melancoly in her writings, Clarisse invites us to escape.
Escape to find one's Promise Land. For her, it could be Brazil, which she describes as a metaphor of herself: European and African. Born from a French father and Cameroonian mother, she has lived in Guinea Bissau, and even longer in Mozambique.
Mozambique is the country where lies her heart.
At home, they still speak Portuguese, it just comes naturally. So of course, Brazil, with the language, and its mix of Europe and Africa, feels like home. And so, when time came to choose a language to express herself, she chose Portuguese. Because she it's beautiful and also because it's easier for her to bare her soul in a other language than her maternal one.
English, also, because it's international. And because she aspires to be universal. Why not? With a german name, a French father, a Cameroonian mother, a childhood in Mozambique, and this poem, one day wrote in the beach of Copacabana, Rio De Janeiro.
A poem from a friend who wrote that everytime she smiled wholeheartedly, with all the soul, she became a “Mulata Universal”, a universal mulata.
And that, in essence, is her music: music of a universal mulata who expresses herself through the identity she made from her past, her roots, her multiple cultures, her travelings, her love for black music... All this sung with this touching and mesmerizing voice that invites you to follow her on her journey...
