We are a group of ladies who raise money for STREET CHILD AFRICA the best way we know how, reaching out to you; our friends, family and the local London community.
BIRTH OF S.C.A…
It all started in 2006, when OMNIA came up with the amazing idea of a charity event. After thinking about it long & hard we decided that STREET CHILD AFRICA would be the best charity to donate our proceeds to as the suffering of street children in Africa is something that we all care about.
JOURNEY OF S.C.A…
At first, we were all hyped and ready to start working on this project... we had big ideas like for example holding it in Central Park with a big stage and all these amazing performers but unfortunately we were brought back down to earth when we realised that for all these things we needed money, and we had NONE!
However we weren’t put off by our reality check, we still knew that we could make it big. We contacted a variety of artists who we THOUGHT would be willing to aid our cause… after a few let downs we were able to find a line-up of talented performers who were willing and able to support us as we did our best to help those less fortunate than ourselves! ARTISTS= SORTED!
There were a number of places that we thought would have been ideal for our cause but getting one for a reasonable price was harder than we thought… however the pastor of Sanctuary R.C.G was kind enough to lend us his hall for the evening! VENUE= SORTED!!
There were still essentials that we hadn’t sorted out like…’How are we gonna advertise?’, ‘How are we gonna sell tickets?’…. ‘Who is gonna sort out the technical side of things?’ & OMG ‘What are we gonna wear?’ After taking time to think about these things we decided to have our flyers designed by Gina’s cousin and after some stressful late nights they were done n they were BIGG! BIGG UP DAPPAMAN! Tickets were ordered, technical side was under control and we thought the best way for us 2 rep Street Child Africa and still look good was to have t-shirts designed and painted (shown in pictures below). BIGG UP JONATHAN! PROMOTION, OUTFITS= SORTED!
S.C.A’s Setbacks
All seemed to be going well until a few days before the event…disaster struck! We need a LICENCE! we had been told before that as it is only one event, a licence wasn’t necessary… suddenly things had changed and we had very little time to purchase a licence or S.C.A could not go on! After running round and visiting almost every police station in Newham we finally had this licence ting and S.C.A was back on track! The day was getting closer and it seemed the closer it got the more problems occurred but we got through them all… we had sudden illnesses, staging and lighting being overlooked, DJ’s and equipment being unavailable all of a sudden and artists who even after several reminders in all different forms STILL did not know what day the event was on KMT!
