Band Bio
Suicide City began when the passionately focused Billy Graziadei met the kinetically energetic singer Karl Bernholtz while producing his band, the Groovenicks from south Florida. Graziadei then brought in session drummer Danny Lamagna, who was soon joined by fellow Groovenicks guitarist AJ Marchetta. After meeting female powerhouse bassist Jennifer Arroyo while on the road with Kittie, Graziadei pledged to one day join forces with this beautifully intense woman! The dream team was complete. With mounting obligations and impractical geography between them, Suicide City's seedling stage might have been a logistical nightmare, but as Marchetta says, "nothing good comes easy."
Suicide City's first disc, Not My Year, utterly masters hydrologic speed, sleek melodies and bewildering aggression all encompassed in several hues of tragic beauty. Perhaps when Jennifer described what being in SUICIDE CITY meant to her, she also tapped into what people can expect to experience in this murderous metropolis."Being able to have no limitations and no boundaries," declares Jennifer. Graziadei further explains the five-piece's integrity-filled maxim, "Suicide City is not influenced by what is the trend of the day! My influences effected me at an early age, growing up with the Misfits, the Cure, Minor Threat, the Beatles, Joy Division, Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin."
Indeed, Suicide City houses the poisonous poetry of the Cure, the stabbing rhythm section of the Misfits and a smoldering addictive quality that made the Beatles the legends that they are. Add in the fact that Jennifer grew up listening to metal and hardcore, you get some insight as to what this riveting and magnetic outfit delivers, but it also begs the question: what's in a name? Graziadei points to our society's destructive pathology. "People put themselves through so much abuse; physically, mentally, emotionally, economically, it's all suicide! We live in a world where people continually destroy their souls in the name of vanity, is this sane? When you remove 'want' out of your vocabulary and concentrate on 'need,' life becomes much easier to bare!" And speaking of destructive pathologies, singer Bernholtz defines Suicide City performances as, "a sweet ass train wreck.", while Jennifer draws parallels to their live show as being an orgasm!
The quintet have already earned accolades from critics like, "A trip to Suicide City is in fact what a music lover needs... Original, Fierce, Sexy, melodic, dark, bright & beautiful. That comes as no surprise since the shrapnel stray of "Fuck Your Dreams" is the sheer sound of anarchy and the haunting mosaic of "Give Me Your Pity" resonates with psychotic screams, a chorus that gushes blood and otherworldly accents throughout. While "Undone" begins like the soundtrack to a 1940s horror flick then packs a barbwire tight crunch. Yes, you can't easily classify Suicide City as a punk band, a melodic, melancholy oozing hard-rock band, or an industrial metal conglomerate, although there are elements of those things but don't even think of finding parallels to Kittie or Biohazard in the mix. This group sets out to offer an adventure as opposed to the average. Graziadei concurs, "Its a beautiful gray day and theres a wonderful dark forest ahead of us where everything is fresh and new!"
The band has toured constantly during first show in April of 2005. With well over 100 high energy shows under their belt, Suicide City has shared the stage with Mindless Self Indulgence (full US tour in Fall of 2005), Otep and are heading out on the road again in April 2005 supporting Taking Back Sunday. The band has sold 5000 copies of their debut ep "Not my year" and have no plans ..ping this momentum!
So ask yourself if you are brave enough to take a trip to Suicide City?
Suicide City completed their first tour with OTEP (summer 2005) which led them to their first full US tour with friends, MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE. (Fall of 2005) The band quickly won the crowd over night after night with the bands intense music and relentlessly energetic stage show, which all helped build their quickly growing fan base. With the success of the recent US tour with friends TAKING BACK SUNDAY, Suicide City has no plans on letting up on their rigorous touring schedule, all with out label support!
The mesmerizing vocals and undaunting vigor of Karl makes it very apparent that he's spent most of his life competing in gymnastics, obvious after seeing him swing from the rafters by his feet or doing back flips off the tallest objects he can find. Carisma oozing from every orifice, Karl Berhnoltz is by far one of the most entertaining frontmen currently out there! The arduous, spikey haired frontman is not the only person who grabs your attention during the Suicide City mayhem.
Billy Graziadei takes control of the stage with the prowess of a lion wrapped up with a lot of stage experience. It's not a suprise to find the talented guitarist in the crowd, floating over peoples heads or performing his patented "hand walk" across the ever growing legion of Suicide City citizens.
Jennifer Arroyo provides enough sexual images on stage to catapult any young boy or girl quickly through puberty as she hypnotizes the crowd with grinds, caresses and the ever so sexy licking of her bass. As if she were making love on stage with her bass wrapped around her, the music, energy and passion that comes out of her and her boys is pure ecstacy!
AJ Marchetta, flanking the sexy bassist, quickly moves around the stage with the agility of a panther, literally doing cartwheels, jumping off walls and speakers while swinging his guitar around with such a whirlwind of energy, all with out missing a beat.
Finally, Dan Lamagna provides the back bone rhythm that holds Suicide City all together. With his punchy and tastefully energetic style, it is obvious that Lamagna has studied drums and percussion for many years. The new talent on the block shows he's destined to become top ranked in the drum world with his combination of double bass patterns and quick hand work he has created a styleI edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
