The Texas Toast Band (TTTB, for short) is a local country/rock band that just released their first CD, “Last Callâ€, after having been together for more than three years. Most folks describe TTTB as a rock band that plays country music. With original compositions and cover tunes alike, this group hits every genre of music from the late Johnny Cash to Van Halen, not to mention everything in between!
The Texas Toast Band’s guitar player, Matt "mAteo" Burkett, is from Ashland, Ohio and has been with TTTB well over two years. As a guitar player for most of his life, Matt brings an edge to the group’s sound that is rooted in everything from heavy metal, classic rock and blues, to classic country, southern rock and contemporary country. Matt's guitar and vocal styles give The Texas Toast Band's brand of country its attitude!!
Brad Doerfler, originally from Hays, Kansas, is one of three original members of TTTB and now resides in Barberton, Ohio. Brad's extensive study of all things percussion has ultimately led him to a Master's Degree in Percussion Performance from The University Of Akron. As half of TTTB's rhythm section and one of four vocalists in the group, Brad has a great influence on form and arrangement of the band’s music.
Another original band mate, Clint Wolf, from Canton, Ohio, has performed in front of audiences of all types and sizes for most of his adult life. Having filled the roles of rhythm guitarist, keyboardist, drummer and back-up vocalist in many area bands through the years, TTTB is Clint's first go-round at the position of "frontman." A professional in every sense, not to mention a talented, prolific song writer, Clint's unique vocal stylings catapult TTTB's music to the forefront of today's country.
Jason "Hoss" Holcomb rounds out the line-up of TTTB charter members. As a bass player and vocalist, Hoss is able to complete the rhythm section and keep the groove low and dirty. Having performed live music for some 23 years now, Hoss has done everything from Community Theater to DeeJaying weddings and parties to rockin' out in pubs and taverns. Hoss lives in Orrville, Ohio with his family; an entire house full of musicians!!
Brad, mAteo and Hoss have all known each other for going on 15 years now. The three used to play in a power trio called "Mother Jones", a classic rock band; think John Mellencamp, Bob Seger’s Silver Bullet Band and Prince. Yes, Prince. As the three of them parted on good terms to pursue other projects, they remained in close contact over the years.
Enter: Clint. About five years ago, Clint and Hoss helped out a start-up band and met for the first time. Clint playing keys and singing, and Hoss playing bass and singing, things went smooth. For a while. As so often happens, the "bandleader" made an error in judgment. Clint and Hoss were no longer needed.
Enter: Brad. Three years ago, after Clint and Hoss were relieved of their duties with the garage band, they called Brad. They also hired a guitar player and The Texas Toast Band was, almost overnight, born! TTTB played show after show and went through guitar player after guitar player. Until...
Enter: mAteo. More than two years ago, mAteo showed up to hear The Texas Toast Band. It just so happened that mAteo was between bands, and TTTB needed yet another guitar player. Many gigs and one album later, TTTB has a solid line-up of dedicated, professional musicians that have the greatest job in the world: they get paid to help people have fun!!!
The Texas Toast Band members are all Christians. While they don't agree on all things spiritual, they do all have a strong faith in their Creator. TTTB prays before each show and often times invites patrons, fans and staff to join if they wish. This group believes the talents bestowed upon each of them by God are one way He shows His love. In the way they share these gifts is how The Texas Toast Band shares that love with God's children.
As for the name "The Texas Toast Band", its origin is still somewhat unclear. Some people think the name comes from the band's unnatural love of pasta and thick-sliced garlic bread. Clint, Brad, mAteo and Hoss like to raise a glass every now and again... The band just says "Git 'em up for a Texas Toast!!"
TTTB recently finished their first studio project titled “Last Call†which was released Saturday, August 1st 2009. All of the lyrics and music on the disc were penned and performed by The Texas Toast Band. All tracks were recorded by Drew Murray at New Dimension Studios in Wooster, Ohio, and faithfully represent the group’s live sound.:
