WITCHBLADE came into existence in 1999, when singer Freddy Alexis parted ways with INQUISICION, a band he had worked with for over 5 years. Right after the split, Alexis decided to form a Heavy/Power Metal project, along with Rodrigo Espinoza (Drums, at that time in SLAVERY) and Soledad Genúa, a talented female guitar player from the local scene. They started writing songs shortly after, and the first incarnation of WITCHBLADE was soon completed with the addition of Paulo Domic (Bass & Keyboards, ex-IMPERIO).
The band recorded a 4-song Promo Tape entitled Taste My Sword, which caught the attention of Santiago-based Picoroco Records and was subsequently released in cassette format. The specialized argentinian magazine Epopeya described it as an excellent demo, packed with musical and technical excellence. A second guitar player was recruited, César Jara, but he didnt last long and was soon replaced by Rubén Alarcón. Around the same time Paulo Domic also left the band (he would later, ironically, join INQUISICION as their lead singer) to be replaced by Francisco Peñaloza (ex-MAGISTRAL).
During the year 2001 WITCHBLADE started working on the songs for their debut album. However, during the process Rubén left to join KAISER and was soon replaced by Gabriel Hidalgo. On December, 2000 the band recorded the 9 songs that would form I at CEDA Studios in Santiago, with former member César Jara as engineer and CRIMINAL guitarist Rodrigo Contreras at the production helm. In only three weeks the band (Alexis, Hidalgo, Genúa, Espinoza and the briefly-returned Domic) completed the album.
Extensive touring and promotion for the album took place during 2001, while the band garnered excellent reviews in the Metal community.
Later that year, WITCHBLADE was summoned as opening act for Brazils ANGRA and Argentina's RATA BLANCA for their respective shows in Santiago. In both gigs the response from the audience was overwhelmingly enthusiastic and positive. Several other cities between Copiapó and Puerto Montt were visited as well.
A wholly revamped WITCHBLADE rose in 2002, with Alexis, Hugo MartÃn (Guitar), Boris Israel (Drums) and Peyuco Santander (Bass). This short-lived line up managed to record the Interlude EP.
The new, updated WITCHBLADE emerged in 2003, with the twin lead attack of guitarists Sergio Villarroel and MatÃas Vidal, the skin bashing provided by Juan Pablo Hermosilla and the bass lines courtesy of Felipe Vuletich, who had already toured with the band during their I Tour.
After a fruitful period crowned by opening slots for RATA BLANCA and the mighty IRON MAIDEN (the latter in front of 22,000 people!), WITCHBLADE are currently giving the final details to the release party of this third album called simply MMVI ...
12 powerful songs makes this album a real heavy metal masterpiece... Good reviews, good music...powerful riffs, loud drums and a screaming banshee is all that you must find in this album...

MMVI Tour begin in September 2006, and after a year touring, the band now is preparing their fourth album "Ignition"...

The band is now preparing a new show in Peru opening for Kotipelto and Kreator in septembre 30th.
MMVI Tour was finished in Juanuary 2008 and the guys worked very hard in the new tracks, Felipe Majluf wrote almost 20 songs and the job of selecting the best was incredibly hard, because we all thought every song was amazing, finally just 9 songs took place in the recording studio and at first time with Franco Lama at the drums recording studio (Salina's Place) and Fredy Alexis with Cristian Rodriguez (15 Hz Studios), the new album "Ignition" took form at the last part of 2008, now is the time for looking a label to put this masterpiece in the street...
