Atteze

Atteze, one of the most talented hip-hop groups of today was formed in 1991 with the band members Hadji "Hadj 1" Smith, Fred "Rick Triphe" Horton, Jeff "D&L" Matthews (R.I.P.), and Mike "Villano" Fanning. The group wrote and produced their music and gained recognition performing at local talent shows. In 1992, Atteze acquainted themselves with entrepreneur Kyle "Shea" Jennings. While Atteze focused on lyrics and local underground albums, Jennings handled all of the business aspects concerning the group. Atteze was featured on the local talk show "Speaking out News" and were highlighted in local newspaper "Huntsville Times". In 1993 and 1995, Atteze auditioned for "Teen Summit" which airs on Black Entertainment Television (BET) and appeared on "Amateur Night at the Apollo" in Harlem, New York. Atteze has also worked with Daryl Simmons of Silent Partner Production and signed a deal with Silent Partner Productions. Daryl Simmons put together a showcase that featured a line up consisting of Atteze (rap group), Tann (R&B female singer) and The Dolls (R&B group who are professionally known, as "Destiny's Child"). This later got Atteze a major recording deal with Sylvia Rhone, CEO of Electra Records. Unfortunately, Atteze realized that having a records deal does not mean you are going to drop an album. The album was placed on the shelf and Daryl Simmons could not give Atteze an explanation. 1997 through 2005 were hard times for the group. Atteze was seeing their dreams slip away from them. Especially after the loss of their hard-hitter lyricist Jeffrey Mathews "D & L" in December 2005.
