The George Reefah Story
Coming from Toronto, Canada its very difficult for anyone to hear your message much less pay attention to it. After all, Though Toronto is a large city it is still a relatively small speck on the northern shore of the smallest of the great lakes; a very tiring four hour drive north of Detroit, Michigan; and a Gruelling eight hour drive from New York City and Chicago. George Reefah’s success in Toronto, Canada is almost irrelevant to mention because it is quite typical. Many Toronto-born hip hop artist have all had the same degree of success. He had commercial radio success without effort, He received national TV airtime through the avenues of commercials and music videos almost instantly, just like a number of his hip hop counterparts in Canada but there was one thing that seemed to set George Reefah apart from everyone else. What set Reefah apart from everyone else was his will to never be satisfied.
In the summer of 2007 George and his long time friend and manager Marco Capo found themselves in Amsterdam at a marijuana café for a much needed smoke when George noticed what seemed to be a government officials vehicle mysteriously following them as the toked away. Ahhh…It must be the chronic is what you would probably think to yourself because that’s exactly what Reefah had thought but the marijuana wasn’t fooling anyone after three flashes flickered their way startling everyone in the café. Prior to the tour stop in Amsterdam Reefah and Capo had been hustling music and had made their tour money back 10 fold without recording a single dollar; which according to international law is highly illegal. Thinking it was Interpol or the immigration or just the paparazzi Reefah and Capo quickly grabbed their belongings and headed to the rear of the building and made their way out and through the narrow streets of Amsterdam’s Red Light district. Sure enough the vehicle followed them continuing to snap pictures of the artist and his manager. Making their way back to their hotel Reefah and Capo quickly made plans to leave the Netherlands and continue on their tour to Stockholm, Sweden but not before stashing the money away in a Schipol airport safety deposit box.
The camera flashes continued, In the summer of 2008 Reefah had returned to North America and had filmed one of the largest budgeted hip hop videos in Canadian history--effortlessly. Laced with the latest in video technology and directed with the genius of up and coming director Joseph Zentil George re-lived his unforgettable Europe tour in a six minute epic video where 100..s of thousands of euros were tossed around carelessly while on the run not from Interpol, not the immigration but the paparazzi. George had found a way to turn this real life adventure into a charismatic filled, swagger flooded music video never seen before by the Canadian public. It was at this point when Reefah had realized that there is nothing that he couldn’t do.
George Reefah has walked red carpets in Los Angeles, he has fired pistols in Arizona, he has shot films in New York and has wooed women from Connecticut to London. Oh yes!, were supposed to be talking about Music here…sorry. He has performed in Montreal, Canada, Brussels, Belgium, Miami, Florida, Atlanta, Georgia, Stockholm, Sweden and the list continues. It would be easy to confuse someone with this resume to be some sort of James Bond rapper but don’t be offended if you might have done that. That’s exactly what George Reefah is. George is a rapper who lives life dangerously, who never takes no for an answer, and who literally cannot be stopped. He charms his way through situations calmly and never rests until he achieves success. Imagine the videos, Imagine the image, Imagine the potential that George Reefah holds if he has done all this within two years of recording true-to-life lyrics and presenting them to the people. After all, he is coming from a small speck on the northern shore of the smallest of the Great Lakes; a tiring five hour flight fromVancouver and a gruelling Nine hour flight from Berlin. Yet for some reason not only do people from across the globe hear him but they actually do pay attention.
