About Me

"Without freedom of thought, there can be no such thing as wisdom; and no such thing as publick liberty, without freedom of speech...and in those wretched countries where a man can not call his tongue his own, he can scarce call any thing else his own."
--from the actual Cato Letters
When it comes right down to it, The Cato Letters have a chemistry that can't be written or learned, or even emulated. Their experimentation and self-discovery put them on track towards a bold sound they can call their own. Their latest release, Theory of Communication, talks to the soul amidst the experimental nature that comes along with their mesmeric melodies. With their progressive, alt-rock sound, their lyrics mesh with a pop-fresh attitude that's reveals an intensity that is both endearing and intriguing.
The future was all too near. In the summer of 2005, Nick Mallis and Matthew Roush met and put their creative minds together, and it was only shortly after that the bassist Stephen Galasso joined the group. The bond was immediate; just plugging, playing, and letting innovative juices flow. The three frequented obstacles and almost called it quits after it was clear a talented drummer was a rare commodity in their Florida college town. But then Stephen ran into a rival band member from his past. Zack Dean, drummer of many bands that had competed against Stephen's in high school, was the missing link to The Cato Letters, and after one listen of what they had written so far, Zack needed no convincing.
With all members in place, the band produces music both foreign and familiar to the new youth-rock on rise. Their descending rhythms act as hand cannons blowing up on top of the reigning rock minimalists. College has taken a backseat to the band's new newfound talents uncovered in their collaborations. "I can't not have a band. It's my life." And Nick's style proves undeniable as he escapes generic guitar riffs and plays with a soulful technique. Matt spins an artistic vocal chic the fuels the dynamics towards a beautiful but empowering subtlety.
The Cato Letters is continuously maturing and progressing with every live show and every performance to date. The band is projected to be in the studio December of 2007, and will be on the road shortly thereafter.
Note: The tracks bought from the SnoCap player will list KATO as the artist...they won't let us change it, so you might want to.
