About Me
Stefanie Keys is "Powerful Soulful Magnetic JuJu"- Rhiannon 08
I am a songwriter and a singer with an original sound, lyrical stylings, and a voice that is soulful vulnerable and passionate. I have always been an entertainer and love to be an inspiration for others to be expressive and powerful!!!
From the hills of Marin County California, I come from a family of musicians, one of my biggest influences is my brother Peter "Keys" Pisarczyk (P-Funk, Seepeoples). And my two aunts Annie and Claudette Bouchard. Peter rejected my constant attempts to sing in his band projects during our early teens. This turned out to be the impetus for me to pick up a guitar and learn to do it on my own. Writing songs, and developing my craft got Peter's attention. Our partnership thrives as we work together in the music world creating and appreciating the gift that it is to be growing as artists.Bass playing has always been a passion of mine, and leading the party at Wavy Gravy's Hog Farm Festival in 1999 as frontwoman for the female power trio 'Fathom'.Was a blast! Local mendocino county players, drummer Lauren Kaplan and guitar great Janis Smith truly rock, and saved me from a bit of cabin fever! Love you lots gals! From there a series of auditions with Big Brother and The Holding Company as the new lead vocalist did not land the gig, however created openings for 'Fathom' to open for Sam Andrews (Big Brother and The Holding Company) in local Marin County Venues. The comparisons to Janis Joplin have always been undeniable. From the quality of my voice and power, to the passion and energy on the stage, is almost eery how I can channel her...Many thanks and I Love you Janis! With the determination to pursue music as a career, I landed the job as frontwoman for 'Twelve Pennies' in Atlanta GA, later to be known as 'Sister Will' with Jimmy Byrd, Glenn Foxx, Derek Peirkowski and Peter Keys.I was a featured artist on the' Vulvapalooza Tour'. A tour of women artists. Playing my acoustic 12 string for a large gay women contingent in Atlanta GA. I then came on board as a backing vocalist with 'Superchick and Goodpussy', 12 peice Funk reveiw with some of the wildest characters on the funk scene in Atlanta Ga. Headlining the Gay Pride celebration in Peidmont Park playing for 30,000 people. And a small tour on the Florida Coast with 'Gurufish'.Playing on stage with George Clinton and '420 Funk Mob' during the West Coast tour with the band 'Drugs', In November 2007 has been amazing! I have been so priveleged to work closly with P-funks Clip Payne and Barbarella Bishop founders of 'WeFunk Records' and 'C Music Group' Who have taken me under theyre wings as artist on their Label to distribute my Debut release 'Say You Will'.
One of my favorite things to do is to slink my way onto a stage with any band I can, to get in a few licks. This way of improving and seizing a moment to create magic, and relish those moments of other great bay area artists such as Jay Lane (Bob Weirs 'Ratdog', Alphabet Soup, Charlie Hunter Trio, Freaky Executives) and Dave Shul (Spearhead)Clarence Clemons (Bruce Springstein) Tommy Castro, has always been a thrill and such a privelege for me.
As the frontwoman for "Einstone" with Doug doppler, Atma Anur and Jason Muscat ( Doppler Effect).I have grown immensly as an artist from working with such genius players.I have had the pleasure of contributing my vocal talent to many other projects of Bay Area artists doing session recordings and live shows for non profit organizations,( Bread and Roses) and causes(Tsunami Reileif, Code Pink and various institutions) I have alot of fun with local Marin women like Brindl, and Crickie, at Sexy Sunday in Fairfax at Peri's, and have recently become a radio programmer at KWMR featuing new releases!!!
My Debut Album, Say You Will, produced by Peter Keys, has just been released July 5th 08. This body of work is fresh and original. I do Janis Joplin's "Try" (just a little bit harder) so that Janis would be proud. The production and world class musicians that have come together for "Say You Will' is so dynamite, we are all about to get noticed.
