Happy New Year! The latest and greatest:
Mel and Erik are officially married! Jim and I just got back from the jungle of Kaihalulu, Maui, where we spent 6 days and 7 nights in a solar-powered home with Mel, Erik and Carla. What an experience! We were surrounded by the tropical forest and all her natives, i.e. geckos, ginormous spiders and the most disgusting and huge cockroaches ever, plus many other critters.
The weather was hot and humid, raining almost every night and clearing almost every day to allow us to explore the surrounding beaches and wilderness. Mel and Erik were married on the 3rd on a private beach in Pa'ia. I did so well maintaining composure until Mel turned to us and said, "okay, let's do it!" (meaning the ceremony), at which point I burst into tears. I don't know why. I'm emotional. Anyway, everything was beautiful, can't wait to see the photos.
I am SO excited to report that we have purchased a home! It's an adorable single family home in the Outer Sunset, just a block off the beach and 3 blocks from the Zoo (of which I am not afraid). We move on Saturday, this week! Hard to believe how quickly something like buying a home happens. We're signing the loan documents today, closing Friday and moving on Saturday! Total time for this process once our offer was accepted: 30 days. Praise jeebus it's fast!
Three bedrooms, one bath, plenty of room to expand, huge backyard ready for me to tear apart and rebuild, just a block off the L line... Yes, it's far, but it's oh-so-perfect so the distance doesn't matter. Our realtor called the area "Suburban Urban", and I simply can not describe it any better way.
Pictures to come this week, promise! Right now I have to get back to catching up on work after vacation, setting up our electric/satellite/water/garbage/etc for the move on Saturday, and leave early to go sign the loan docs. Phew! Never a minute's rest...
Hope everyone is well!

Movies:

I'm not a big movie person, but okay, here are two:

- The Princess Bride
- Pootie Tang

Hey, I never said I was going to name epics! But no. 1 kicks ass and no. 2 is just plain hilarious.

Television:

Okay, okay, I admit it: I'm a total Law & Order junkie. I spent some of my more formative late-teenage years catching up on all of the episodes I had missed because I was too young to know better.

Books:

The Devil Wears Prada
(Lauren Weisberger)

I have worked for the Devil, and she does indeed wear Prada. And these really horrible leather pants that make a "whoosh whoosh" sound when she walks the halls.

Heroes:

My girl, Josi. She survived the scary late-night/early-morning streets of the Tenderloin all by herself in a box!
(Josi is my cat.)
