Crafty Latinas

I'm Kathy Cano Murillo of CraftyChica.com .
I created this profile as a cyber casa for Crafty Latinas across the globe!
Chicas like me who glue, paint, sew, draw, knit, crochet, bead, silk screen, embroider and sprinkle glitter where ever we go.
So what was my motivation? The crafts movement is growing minute by minute. As a Mexican-American artist and crafter, it bugs me that there is not more representation in products, book publishing and other forms of the media when it comes to our culture.
But I'm not a whiner. I'm a do-er. I wrote some books with my version of cool crafts with Latino flair. No pinatas or chili peppers. The response I recieved was amazing, from not only Latinas, but all kinds of people who love the culture and appreciated my efforts. I'm not alone in all this so I thought it would be nifty to have a place for us to connect and share shout outs and scoops. Check out my pics because I posted some places to find good stuff.
And I called it "Crafty Latinas" because our backgrounds are so vast. Puerto Rico, Guatemala, Domincan Republic, Cuba, Mexico, Equador, Chile, Spain, Brazil...I hope Crafty Latinas sums it up for you!
By the way - Crafty Latinos (and anyone else who is into this scene) are invited too!!!
Wouldn't it be cool to have our own show or conference sometime? Or unite our forces to and share a booth at some of the larger craft fairs around the country. Let's see what happens!!
