The Mist and Moonshine

Hello. My name is Jay. The Mist and Moonshine is my excuse to hang out with friends. I write songs so that I can recruit people to add parts and goof around. The most enjoyable part of making music for me is the communal spirit that writing and recording a song creates. The joy shared by a group of people at making something that sounds cool, catchy, or, if you are lucky, beautiful is what music is about for me. The more I study the music I really enjoy I find that this is what draws me to the music. The humanity of it.When recording this is the spirit I want to capture. No polished mastering techniques here. I want the noises and creeks that come from an old chair, leather jacket or someone breathing loudly through their nose to be a part of the song. To me they are as much an instrument as a guitar or a drum. Those sounds add life. Those sounds are the people in the songs.Hope you enjoy what you hear. I sure enjoyed making it!
