Band Members: Konduct was born in New Mexico and traveled the country during his childhood, gathering an eclectic mix of cultures along the way to influence his creativity. In Florida he was influenced by the bass heavy sounds of Dj Magic Mic and start of the southern movement. In Texas his ears found the twisted music of Dj Screw (RIP Homie). It was in Atlanta that he first heard Outcast in the form of a bootlegged cassette tape. “In elementary school I was always taking bootleg tapes and making my own mix tapes with them, I would take a dual tape player and just keep on hitting pause and dubbing shit over and over again…†Oddly enough it was back in his home town of Santa Fe that he found the East Coast mix. “I was all into Ice-T and Eazy, then my homie’s cousin from Jersey (what up hippie!) put on this De La Soul CD while we were partying and I was just trippin…†After getting tired of trouble in the 505, Konduct moved to Colorado to get focused. DJ’ing live for the drunken college masses, he found himself wanting to be a part of the music. He interned at FTM studios with John Sundberg, Rob Gordon, and Ice Cube, saved some chips and built a studio of his own. Floating around with crews doing shows in Boulder, he met the second half of Permanent. “Meeting Tones in 2004 really opened my eyes as to what I could be as an artist… what we could ALL be as Hip Hop†The two of them worked with a few crews in Boulder and Denver making a reputation for themselves as force in Colorado. “I remember this show in Boulder where we made this dude walk off stage… Tones was on stage yellin ‘where’s Konduct!’ I think I was in the alley puffin…so funny†With Tones at the front the choice was obvious. Permanent Records continues to produce some of Colorado’s most innovative Hip Hop.Tones is Denver. Up and Down. Traveled from central Mexico to Alaska he has always found his home here. “Denver is the true melting pot of the United States…†Growing up in a diverse surrounding, the multi-cultural appeal of Hip Hop made it easy for Tones to become a part of the music. With over 11 years of holding the mic, Tones has rocked everything from flashy venues to house parties in neighborhoods most people wouldn’t drive through. “If DRO Krew wasn’t throwing the party, we made it. We would take parties.†Tones would sit with his people and cypher over anything, until he met Dj Optimus Prime and really started to define himself as an MC. After performing at some larger venues he was invited to a freestyle battle by Dj Konduct. Konduct was impressed and went on to invite Tones on a small local tour with an act called Guerilla Wordfare. The band dissolved after some issues with management but the MC’s from the group continued on with Konduct to form Wolfgang. Tones built a reputation during that time as one of the most creative and prominent freestyle artists in Colorado, destroying crews from Denver to Ft. Collins. “To this day I never really considered myself a battle MC. To me it’s more of just taking your emotions at the time and making it poetic, and sometimes that means breaking someone off on stage.†With Tones killing MC’s and Konduct making DJ’s sweat, the choice was obvious. Wolfgang dissolved with some members moving to California and they formed Permanent Records shortly after. “When I look back on it, I just think Konduct wanted to see if I really had any skill or not.†Look out for a new bread of MC.
