About Me

J C Campbell An Ex Graffiti Artist Branching out into songwriting/Producing.As a producerAsk me what the most important thing is in the studio and I will tell you its My imagination. I tell myself my imagination is better than the person who programmed the synth, better than the person or group of people that compiled the sample CD, and more infinite than any sequencer. I also live by my analogue values I use a computer like most producers these days, But I would like to think that I could be a prolific producer in the days way before a Computer was involved I imagine my sequencer as its distant cousin a Reel to Reel tape machine and I don’t like to quantise. I like to capture a performance by playing instruments into the computer instead of triggering them from the computer. If its goes wrong press delete and do it again. I hate that sort it out later attitude that many producers suffer from.As a songwriterI believe when writing lyrics that if a word pulls to much towards another word then it’s not the word to use. How many times have you heard a song when a line ends in YEARS and you know the next line will end with TEARS I hate that. I avoid cliché rhymes like the plague. When I was about 19 years old my parents bought me Tunesmith for christmas a book on song writing by Jimmy Webb. This book has become my bible. Sometimes I just sit down and practice writing similes and metaphors Tunesmith taught me to do that. I also find inspiration anywhere from watching sports news to overhearing conversations lyrics should paint a picture in your mind and be delivered sincerely. I am also a member of the International Songwriters Association in Limerick Ireland. As a publisher J C Campbell Ltd (EST 2005) My company’s short to medium term goal is to have a catalogue of 100 songs written by myself and other songwriters.
