About Me

John Goudge (that's me) is a West Auckland singer/songwriter, actor, director, writer & tutor. I bring a lot of theatre to my work. I call my music blues-funk-rock-folk-jazz, because it covers lots of genres.John and band have been beavering away with award winning producer Simon Holloway (Beaver Studios) since December 2007 to produce a debut studio album.I love playing live & audiences are never disappointed. At our full compliment we are a kick-ass 8-piece band that is extremely versatile. In 2006 we were adjudged the 'most outstanding band' at ALT TVs Top of the Rocks competition, & in 2007 we reached the Amplifier.co.nz charts. In April 2008 the song Coma went to number 1 on the main chart, and in May Threw Love Down the Drain made the top 10.I still frequently play solo - & enjoy this form too. This is the way my songs were originally heard for many years. In 2007 concert goers could purchase the 6-track limited release "The Wind & the Rain" which featured a mix of live & studio demos.previously: We are all buzzing after a rockin' time playing the Waitakere Christmas Festival in the park. Up to 10,000 people they reckon, which is by far our biggest audience.A big thanks goes to the Waitakere City Council Creative Communities scheme which has granted John Goudge Band $2500 towards the cost of making the album. Thanks too to the Titirangi Community Arts Council which gave a $500 grant towards the cost of the demo CD.In August 2006 we released a budget live CD 'for the record.' This is a recording of our first concert together in May 2006, a sell-out at the Westpoint Performing Arts Centre, in Western Springs Auckland. Only a small quantity of these will ever be made. Again if you want one, contact me. $15 is the price including postage. Alternatively, if you see us play live, you'll probably be able to buy one of us then for $10. Feedback from this almost 'boot-leg' style recording has been extremely positive.
