SMOKIN SUCKAZ WIT LOGIC

About Me

I don't think that anybody can debate the fact that live music is becoming an important part of hip-hop today. Bands like Urban Dance Squad, Shootyz Groove, and now Smokin Suckaz Wit Logic are setting the pace for the future.I think that the problem previous groups have had is that they focused on the music and not enough on the lyrics and flow. On top of that, the music they played didn't sit well with true hip-hop fans. SSL takes care of all of the above problems. Their music is straight up funkyit has a hard edge to it, but the funk is definately there. SSL is also strong lyrically, and rapper G (Suave) has a real cool flow. His voice is gruff, but yet he manages to stay smooth.Every single song on this album is incredible, but I have to say that the most incredible track is the final cut, "Mutha Made 'Em", on which the band plays a familiar loop (that Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians track, "What I Am") and G just flows like a river. His lyrics show that he is definately not to be fucked with. And damnthe end is absolute pure adrenalein: the guitars speed up, the music is louder, and the chant of "punk motherfuckers need to step the fuck back!" echoes... damn... I was exhausted after listening to this song.Fe sure, this album is a pick-up. This one will have quite a few people nodding their heads in approval, no doubt.Smokin' Suckaz Wit Logic is a hip-hop band from New York. The band formed in 1990. SSL consisted of G "Suave" (lyricist, also known as 'Rodan Tha Thinker), Darren "D-Smooth" Lolk (guitar), Money Mike (bass), Curtis "Mr." Watts (drums, keyboards, background vocals), Spank Dog (programming, scratches, background vocals), and Peter "Ajoe" Jorge (programming, samples, background vocals). While still a group, they opened for Ziggy Marley and KRS-One.They released a single album, Playing' Foolz on the Epic Records label. The groups influences included hip-hop, alternative, funk, reggae, jazz, and metal. The band contributed the song "Cuz I'm Like Dat" to Street Fighter II: The Movie and In A Class Of His Own featuring Lou Diamond Phillips "La Bamba". Due to various creative differences within the group and many frustations over the musical style had not been heard at that time, the band disbanded in 1994. Most of the members went onto do solo careers. Mr. Watts became a Producer and a solo artist, Suave became a Christian Rapper named Rodan Tha Thinker in a band called 'True 2 Life' with Ajoe and a DJ named Wrex, and D-Smooth went onto to play Pete Townshend in The Who Show (A The Who Tribute band) and he also played in a Chicano punk band called Viva Malpache. He is now playing in a band called Spigga.
