About Me

This Is an unofficial Bows website, However all permisson was giving by Luke Sutherland to promote his past efforts. Future updates on Luke Sutherland's Projects including Books/Writings , Music/Collaborations will be updated as they are recieved.
LUKE SUTHERLAND, the heart, brains and soul behind Bows, is the adopted son of an optician, and was brought up in Orkney and Glasgow. He was the founder member, songwriter and lead vocalist with Long Fin Killie who signed to Too Pure shortly after Luke left Glasgow University in 1994. An innovative and experimental band with a cult following, their three albums, Houdini, Valentino and Amelia, gained rapturous applause from the music critics.
BOWS = Mixing elegant drum and bass beats with strings. And featuring the narcotic vocals of Danish singer Signe Hoirup Wille-Jorgensen (Speaker Bite Me/Jomi Massage) and long time friend and collaborator Ruth Emond
Luke is also a critically acclaimed novelist with his first novel "Jelly Roll" being nominated for the 1998 Whitbread First Novel Award! His Second novel was titled"Sweet Meat" and Third novel "Venus As A Boy"
Luke also played violin with Mogwai, and accompanied them at both Reading and Glastonbury festivals (amongst others) as well as in the studio.
Luke is currently collaborating in a band called Jomi Massage. A group fronted by Signe Hoirup Wille-Jorgensen (Speaker Bite Me, BOWS)
Another project is called Music A.M. In it, he collaborates with Stefan Schneider of To Rococo Rot and Volker Bertelmann.
The mini album 'My City Glittered Like a Breaking Wave' on Quartermass is the latest excursion from the London/Duesseldorf trio and sees Music A.M. in playful and brooding mood. Slo-blo countrified vibes, methadone doo-wop for disco misfits, swan songs for ex-swingers, are set light by deep blue bass chords, whispering whirlpools of guitar and burbling micro funk. Even the surf licks and pop twists have a wistful and wintry abandonment. While the arrangements and minimal rhythms create a mood assuredly warm and embracing, Luke Sutherland's vocals oscillate between earthbound narration and sparkling voyages into the spheres.
