Poetic Essence started out as a student wanting to play the sax but the band director need percussionist so he was a percussion student. Instantly attracted to the xylophone jumped started his love for the vibes. Mostly self-taught his passion for music had been the driving force in his life. Introduced to jazz in high school Robert fell in love with the music the simple but yet complex rhythms and harmonic elements fused together with musical expression and ideals captured his heart and soul.
Robert's major influence is a great vibraphonist by the name of Stefon Harris; who is playing a major role in Robert's musical development. Greatly inspired by Stefon's vibrant energy and mastering soloing were Stefon's ideals are both cool & hip as they are beautiful in his ballads. Robert has followed Stefon since he first heard of this master vibist in '96 Robert looks forward to playing and collaborating with Mr. Harris in the near future.
Some others major influence include master drummer Terryon Gully, Matt Henry, Art Blakey, Miles Davis, Lee Morgan, Erykah Badu, Quincy Jones, Tribe Called Quest, Rapheal Sadiqq, Marvin Gaye, Steivie Wonder, E,W&F, Ohio Players, The Dramatics,Biggie Smalls, Nas and many more.
Robert has arranged music the University of Missouri-St.Louis Afro Cuban Ensemble. Composed and arranged music for the University of Missouri-St.Louis College of Education Promotional Video. (Which was recorded with the chancellor of the university who is himself an accomplished jazz pianist) and scored music for Film.
Now Robert works with a variety of artist producing music and also on put every aspect of the music he loves from jazz to classic R&B and hip-hop fusion them all together in hopes to bring a new sound to the music world.
"Poetic Essance" is the essance of poetry through music, where as music is poetry and poetry is music. For one to be able to exspress himself/herself with in a manner which can reach out and move and audiance, move a person, put thier feelings and thought in to your heart and mind. To captivate ones every being is the true essance of "poetry" to me."
