About Me

Artist/songwriter The Don (BkDon) uses his creative mind and style to lure listeners in. The Don pulls topics from his own remarkable life experiences. Every song is a confessional, a page from his many rap books that he has filled with his most passionate thoughts and emotions. Using his struggles and heart ache and turning them into great strengths, The Don creates songs that touch every hint of the human spirit. With his music it will make you laugh, make you smile, make you cry.MEETING THE CYPHER Born August 6, in the Bedford-Stuyvesant (Bed-Stuy) area of Brooklyn, The Don watch his older brothers and cousins control cyphers on the corners and in the parks, drawing crowds of listeners. Only just a young boy at this time, The Don stood in that crowd watching his peeps spit bars that made the crowd react with "ohhh'S" and "ahhh's" giving their full attention to the MC's. One day in the Ocean hill Brownsville area where The Don spent most of his years, he watched one of his older brothers’ battle against another MC from Flatbush area of Brooklyn and rip him apart. And it was right then there where he knew that he would one day want to control a crowd of his own. So from there The Don would practice rhyming in the mirror of his grandmother's bathroom then reciting his rhymes to his friends as they laugh and joked with punch lines while cyphering. The Don starting to cypher with his older brother on the corner of "The Hill" on Saratoga and Bergen witch his father once control. His brother started to put him to the test to help him progress his skills. Then one day on the basketball court in the I.S. 55 Park there was another young MC around the same age of Da DON who was "spittin" in the cypher with the older dudes and when word came down the block that someone else was in the park spittin, Don went to see for himself. As he approaches the cypher his older brother shouted “...Hold on, let me lil nigga get in this...” and right there was Don's first battle.THE INSPIRATION At age 14 The Don wrote his first rhyme. The Don’s first written raps were mostly about the pain and the struggles that he has had to deal with in his on life. When The Don was about 8 his father died which left an open wound in him which he writes about often as well has other family members in friends he has lost, weather it be due to a death or lost to the prison system. The Don is no stranger to pain and heart ache and through his music is how he shares his pain with the world. But pain in not all that he has had to deal with; he also shares the fun and exciting moments in his life as well. The Don has live in many places that gave him a clearer view on the different shades of life. From growing up in the survival of the fittest environments of Brooklyn, New York to living in the luxuries of Virginia and even living in the open doors of opportunity in Florida. The Don tells stories of each experience and how it molded him in many ways.IN THE NOW It was in Brooklyn, New York where he fell in love with hip hop, but throughout his travels is where he learned to collaborate many versatile styles. The Don has gone on to song writing and producing as well. He has had songs of his played at a handful of college and local radio stations. He has also opened up for major headline artists; most recently he opened up for Rick Ross. The Don has performed in clubs from Virginia, street corners, stoops, and many parks in New York, to many clubs in Tampa, Fl. His story is very unique and he is prepared to share it with the world. So to all you true music lovers out there, we will like to introduce a gift that your ears and hearts have been waiting for...The Don!
