Drake

Drake Scott is an unsung and unknown talent waiting to burst onto the scene. In his teens, inspired by the likes of Nick Drake and Bruce Cockburn, he began crafting unique songs in a dazzling variety of new and unusual tunings. Along came New Wave and he transitioned into the Liberteens, with Violent Femmes' bassist Brian Ritchie, and later the Nervous System, with fab fretless bassist Tom Galbriath, winking at Gary Numan.Upon traveling to Europe in 1981, he discovered the Art Bears and they blew him out of the water with rough polar bear paws. After that his musical development was too fast to keep up with: he began to study composition with John Downey and electronic music and studio engineering with Jon Welstead in 1982-83, and started his long sojourn playing in the Violent Femmes' Horns of Dilemma on cornetto, trumpet, sackbutt and vocals. By 1984, his tastes had matured considerably beyond the mainstream, and he joined the avant-garde polyartistry project TWA DOGS IN PARIS, featuring Miekal And, Liz Was and Jenny Magnus. During the summer of 1984, he released Proper Yearning, an advanced avant rock recording, on cassette. In 1985, taking inspiration from the legendary Skeleton Crew (comprised of Fred Frith & Tom Cora), he began a one-man band project where he played drums and high-hat with his feet, and guitar, bass, & keyboards with his hands. Playing a variety instruments and composing 8 or more hours per day, he contracted crippling tendinitis which has marred and shadowed him ever since, drawing his musical activities to near closure for decades.
