Jel.Ani grew up on Bob Marley vinyl, Gospel cassettes, and "secular" cd's. Born to Jamaican parents and raised in America.
He may sometimes be gritty, similar to his early New York beginnings, and other times as mellow and slow as his Southern upbringing. With over 200 songs under his belt, Jel.Ani has finally decided to drop his debut album, Black | Nostalgia, slated for a March 10th release. With an uncanny ability to blend genres and a distinct sound, Jel.Ani believes that he is inspired by everything.
"Everything has a sound, and therefore - in the grand scheme of things, it all comes together to create the soundtrack of life. The sound of pain, the sound of love, the sound of birth ... death .... rebirth, etc. So with that being said - all I am creating is the sound of my life, of my experiences, of my reality and my truth - I hope that those who listen can appreciate and understand it all." It is with that frame of mind that he approaches music, attempting to create the sound of his experiences, of his journey, of his struggles, triumphs and disappointments.
