Artist's Statement
Using Classical techniques acquired from master painter, Eddwin Meyers, my work encompasses modern, landscape, still life and figurative work that is often done in a realistic style. As an example, one of the many techniques I have used is a 17th century Renaissance or Verdossio technique which means Green Earth. My goals are to take my realism to the next level, portray everyday life as I see it, tighten my painting further and explore the intricacies of these varied techniques to the fullest.

Biography
My art began when I was fourteen years old, making cartoon pictures until I was eighteen. From 1990 to 1994, I attended Columbia College where I met professor Eddwin Meyers who offered more than what the college atmosphere and teachings could. He had a studio on the North Side of Chicago called The Atelier Alternative where he taught classical techniques and professionalism. At first I fought him by doing what I wanted to do. I was in my own world at the time, doing modern and landscape paintings. One day I asked him if I could learn classical techniques and color theory. Though hesitant at first, he opened his arms to teach me his techniques and a new path was forged.I started doing figurative realism using various classical techniques and I've been developing this style for several years. Getting tighter and tighter in painting my depictions of people, I still, at times, go back to creating modern and landscape paintings. I always try to take my paintings one step further. I've shown in numerous exhibitions and continue trying to find galleries that like and show the type of work I create. I have worked to acquire a diversity of painting style and technique, so I can offer a greater range of art to the public. I teach classical techniques and color theory to students who have the commitment, talent and desire to create works of art.

What is art?
Art to me is a discovery of ones own imagination. An artist can tap this skill in many different forms. Using many mediums and reasons to portray their skill. Some artists take day’s months to contemplate one brush stroke or idea. For me it is a release of energy or very techniqual like a ballet at other times.I go from modern/abstract to classical depending on the feeling and the mood of the moment. I get inspiration from many different people places and things. My main focus is the figure. For several years I have developed my own style. Highly influenced by master painters of the past and of today.Art is a lot of give and take. I feel in order to be a successful artist you need to study the masters. Know what art is of an artist’s own time. Fail at times to make the artist stronger. But ultimately succeed. The path is clear to me strive to be the best at what I do. Just be an artist.
