About Me
J Chris Griffin is heavily involved in the Music industry, working on records with artists such as Kanye West, John Legend, Madonna, Missy Elliott, British groups Mis-Teeq and The Corrs, teen sensation JoJo, and jazz guitarist John McLaughlin. Dance music is also a big part of the scene in NYC and Chris has produced or engineered vocals for Rachel Panay, Danielle Bollinger, Osha Kai, Pepper Mache, Georgie Porgie, Simone Denney and others, and has somehow been brought into the dance family despite his extreme squareness and inability to dance. Maybe Josh Harris has something to do with it...
His own compositions are all over television with recent credits including CBS's "NCIS" and NBC's "Dateline" as well as prime-time shows in the US, Australia, Europe, South Africa, and Mexico (China doesn't report).
Chris has programmed sounds and demo-songs for several major synthesizers including Propellerheads' Reason, McDSP's Synthesizer One, Ultimate Soundbank, M-Audio's Pro Keys 88 and 88SX, and has contributed heavily to the production of musical equipment for many years with M-Audio, Soundcraft, AMEK and Zane Industries (check them out). His own products include the sample-discs "Premium Electric Pianos" and "Premium Vintage Keyboards" distributed by M-Audio, and the Electromechanical Refill distributed by Propellerheads.
As a speaker and clinician, Chris has hosted several seminars and clinics and is the author of several publications. He was the Main Stage Host for Digidesign, Sibelius and M-Audio at Winter NAMM 2007, a clinician at the Monterey Jazz Festival NeXT GEN in California, and the presenter of the new M-Audio Product line at NAMM 2008.
Chris started his career as a saxophonist, touring throughout the 1990's and performing for Presidents, Senators, and others.
Over the years, he has shaped his love of Jazz, Pop and Electronic music into something unique. His experience with engineering and production has allowed him to create a helpful, caring environment that keeps singers and musicians happy and appreciative long-term clients.
Last year, Chris built a fabulous private studio inside the new Cutting Room complex in the Village in Manhattan. Check them out at The Cutting Room.
Chris lives in New York City with his wife Janet. They are (individually and together) living proof of the redemptive history of Jesus. You can visit his website at www.syntheticmess.com, but don't expect to be impressed with the html.
