Spalt has been around since 1996 (with its roots reaching back as far as 1990). First as a no-drums-trio with Robert, Fung and Heiko, playing occasional loud concerts with abstract pop and free noise. When Coon from 'Ashtray Service' joined on drums in 1999, the group evolved more into something like 'rock'. In this line-up Spalt released a self-titled 10''-EP and a CD-R on the 'Jungs & Mädels'-Label.
This is a video from this period, filmed mostly in 1999 on Super 8 by Mr Nic from BE09 and finished in 2005...
Garant
After Fung and Heiko quit in 2002, Robert and Coon remained as core members and made some live appearances in 2003 as a bigband with Moxi, Ignatz, Jens and Carsten. In 2005 Robert recorded the new album 'West lies the Sound' with the support of rhythm section Peter & Olve and Coon, Moxi & Ignatz on guitars. Strange pop and straight rock, songs and spoken word, strict form and free impro, drones, overtones, feedback, guitars... Although first thought of as a studio-only work, the group has also presented the record live in 2006/07.
As everybody has several projects of their own it is entirely unclear if, when and in what line-up Spalt will play live again. But that's the way it is: Spalt is constantly evolving and changing, sometimes sleeping, sometimes active, but always around....
