just show me a moment that is mine, its beauty blinding and unsurpassed...

About Me

I'm a big geek about a lot of things. Sadly, I'm not hugely into computers which, I'm sure has been made painfully evident by the thoroughly uninteresting state of my myspace page. Which is not to say that I'm computer illiterate. Or any other form of illiterate, for that matter. No, I simply do not have the time or patience to mold my biscuit of webspace into some orgasmically mind-altering, acid-trip-induced beautiful piece of eye candy to share with the world. I will, of course, make up for that with pseudo-clever, wordy bits of narrative such as this one. Welcome.

My Interests

good beer, good food, good film, good music (playing AND listening to), good friends, basketball (go Kings!!), tennis, soccer, photography (digital AND film), tree-climbing, camping, hiking, swimming (though open bodies of water kind of freak me out), doing things that kind of freak me out, walking instead of driving everywhere it's feasible, finding a job that pays more than i need to just get by (maybe one that involves my major, even?!), horticulture & botany, plant propogation, aquariums, baking, voting competent people into government office(s), travel, finding a place I actually feel at home in, dancing, feminism, eco-feminism, living up to the standards I hold myself to (thus far, having failed miserably, I'm giving myself a do-over)

I'd like to meet:

my fairy god mother. my soul mate. people who are genuinely NICE. people who realize that there IS a bright side. people who don't have the capacity to hate. people that are interested in catalyzing social change. people who understand how important it is to embrace the good things in life, to encourage love to grow from every dark corner, and to forgive. people who have come to terms with their own emotional/personal issues. people who are capable of carrying on intelligent, thought provoking conversations without alienating or belittling other people. people who are comfortable with themselves, whether they are sitting at home, watching movies with friends or at a bar with a roomfull of strangers. basically, i just want to be surrounded by people who remind me how beautiful the world can be because, lately, i'm tired of having to convince myself

Music:

Amici Forever, Ani DiFranco, Beck, Ben Folds (Five), Bloc Party, Bobby Darin, Bree Sharp, Bright Eyes (Conor Oberst) Cake, Casey Chambers, Chow Nasty, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Damien Rice, Danny Elfman (though I haven't gotten into too much Oingo Boingo yet), Death Cab for Cutie, Feist, Fiona Apple, Frou Frou, Hanson, Holly McNarland, Husky Rescue, Imogen Heap, Janis Joplin, Jewel (pre-pop diva phase), Josh Groban, Josh Ritter, Kelly Clarkson (SUCH a guilty pleasure), Lifehouse, Mates of State, Metric, Mew, Michael Buble, Nada Surf, Neutral Milk Hotel, Pearl Jam, Rachael Yamagata, Radiohead, Regina Spektor, Snow Patrol, Tara MacLean, Tegan & Sara, The Arcade Fire, The Beatles, The Brunettes, The Ditty Bops, The Dresden Dolls, The Faint, The Killers, The Phenomenauts, The Pixies, The Polysics, The Postal Service, The Raconteurs, The Rolling Stones (pre-rehab), The Shins, The Smiths, The White Stripes, Tori Amos, Two Gallants, Weezer, Wolf Parade, and miscellaneous musical theatre stuff (RENT, Cabaret, Phantom of the Opera [even though Andrew Lloyd Webber attempted to single handedly destroy musical theatre]). I'm sure there are a lot of artists that are totally worthy who I have somehow managed to forget but I'll add as I remember...

Movies:

Amelie, Love Actually, Playing By Heart, The Baxter, Wet Hot American Summer, Donnie Darko, High Fidelity, Singles, Equilibrium, The United States of Leland, Gattaca, animated Disney movies (only the ones that were once released in theaters), all Pixar films, Rushmore, Bottle Rocket, The Royal Tennenbaums, She's All That (yes, that one's a guilty pleasure), The Princess Bride, The Lord of the Rings Extended Trilogy, Pirates of the Caribbean (Curse of the Black Pearl), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (both versions), Sean of the Dead, Edward Scissorhands, Garden State, the X-Men and Spider-man series', Legend, everything by Miyazaki (My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki's Delivery Service, Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, Castle in the Sky, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Porco Rosso, Howl's Moving Castle, etc), Kikujiro, Kurosawa's Dreams, Shall We Dance (the original, Japanese version), To Live (the Chinese film), Hero, One Hour Photo, Pentagon Wars, Brick, Intermission, Death at a Funeral and a bunch more I can't think of right now...

Television:

Having not had cable for about 2 years now, I'm pretty out of the loop (and from what I hear, I should be thankful). So basically, if it's not available through NetFlix, I haven't seen it. Shows that I've watched and really enjoyed (or am enjoying) include: Arrested Development, Carnivale, Deadwood, Six Feet Under, Clone High, Stella, The Daily Show, Entourage, Heroes, and though I openly loath reality TV, Matt's family has gotten me totally addicted to Survivor...and I kind of love it. Also, great news for any The State fans out there, the complete series will be released on DVD SOON (I'm so excited, I almost peed when I heard the news)!

Books:

The Mists of Avalon, The Harry Potter Series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, Eragon, Eldest, A Great and Terrible Beauty, Rebel Angels, Angels & Demons, The Da Vinci Code, The Chalice & the Blade, Song for the Blue Ocean, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister, Mirror Mirror, Son of a Witch, The Little Prince, The Missing Piece, The Giving Tree, The Missing Piece Meets the Big O, Where the Sidewalk Ends, A Light in the Attic, Uncle Shelby's Guide to the ABZs, Hotel of the Mysteries, The Jepson Manual of the Higher Plants of California (yup, I'm a plant geek), Siddhartha, Lord of the Flies, To the Lighthouse, Sweet Thursday, About a Boy, A Dirty Job, America the Book, His Dark Materials Trilogy (The Golden Compass, The Subtle Knife, The Amber Spyglass), The Chronicles of Narnia, Stiff, Life of Pi, The Girls, You Grow Girl, Down and Dirty (it's a gardening book, I swear!),...
and many many more that are on my "to read" list. *sigh* One day, I'll get to all of them...

Heroes:

Anyone who has the courage to go after what they really want in life.
