Anyway, the following week I had the great fortune to be invited to a party that blew my mind with joy and goodwill. It was on a small kind of farm near the monastery of Tibães in Braga. I was talking to the host, on his 67th birthday, about the amazing life he has lived, and he told me of some American Literature teaching he had done in the States (he's actually an inventor but that's another story). We got on to Allen Ginsberg and Walt Whitman, and got caught in the grip of the great wonder of the universe. It might have been the wine, and my recent poem about the moon, but I felt myself centred wholly in the world, insignificant and joyful under the clear and endless sky. I was playing basketball in a kilt, at the foot of an orchard, beneath the full moon and dancing to jazz in the wee small hours. I was led by the hostess in a swirling 3 minutes that miraculously made a dancer out of me for the duration of the dance. I had found my place in the world.
I left the party at 3 in the morning in a state of ecstasy, and I woke in the morning with a very lucid idea (and title) for my first book of poems. I would write a series of love letters to the friends that have inspired and touched me through the years, and send them by old style mail. But you'll need to wait till the book comes out to know the title! :-)In October last year I left Theatro Circo, and I have taken a year out to concentrate on songwriting, and finish my next album with The Pilgrims of Light. It's nearly done! You can get some updates on our myspace page. I'm also half way through the poems, so the book will be ready this year too! It will be short, but it's full of love. And there is not enough of that in the world. Is there?
Meanwhile, you can read A Love Letter to The Moon, the poem that got the ball rolling. I have posted it here in a blog. I'll be posting more as they are completed, so please come by and say hello. Take care
