About Me

Bozo (Frank Arthur Bozington III) was born in Tupelo, Tennessee on 25 November 1927. Musically precocious from a young age, Bozo was instrumental in the development of Southern Delta Blues and is reputed to have taught Robert Johnson his first guitar chords. After serving in WW2, Bozo moved to Chicago, where he founded Chess Records in 1948. He served as house writer and producer for many Chess artists, including Howlin’ Wolf, Muddy Waters and Chuck Berry. Stepping out from behind the mixing desk, Bozo recorded his first single “Rock Around The Clock” with his backing band, The Comets. This song is credited as being the first to introduce Rock & Roll to a wider audience. Bozo followed this with a string of hits: “Blue Suede Shoes”, “Hound Dog”, “Johnny B Goode” and many others. Moving to Europe in the late fifties, Bozo, along with his partner Simone De Bouvier, popularised existentialism as a post-Christian, post-Marxist way of looking at the world. It wasn’t long before he was drawn back into the world of pop, though. He formed a new band, called The Beatles, which had considerable worldwide success. He was also prominent in the New York folk scene, writing many of Bob Dylan’s most famous songs. After the Beatles disbanded Bozo moved to Australia, where he was an instrumental figure in the emerging Pub Rock movement, writing and producing albums by Cold Chisel and AC/DC. He left Australia briefly in the late Seventies to return to New York. There, under the name of Grandmaster Flash, he recorded several seminal rap records, and he is widely regarded as a Godfather Of Rap. Aside from music, Bozo has also dabbled in Film, directing several well-received movies, including: Citizen Kane (1949), The Godfather (1972) and Goodfellas (1990). He has also published 37 books on subjects as diverse as fishing, AFL football, and metal detecting. His medical text on proctology (“An Introduction To Proctology”) is considered definitive. His wartime experiences inspired the novels “The Slaughterhouse Five” and “Catch 22”. His most recent work “What About Me: The Shannon Noll Story” is also regarded as a classic. In recent years Bozo has become somewhat reclusive, restricting public appearances to infrequent MySpace Secret Shows, and releasing music only in MP3 format. He has been married eight times, has 51 children, 238 grandchildren and 970 great-grandchildren. He lives in Melbourne.
