About Me

Black Sheep Poem
by Mallory Matson : My Own Bohemia
She is a peace sign tatooed on her wrist and screeching laugh stuck in her throat she is knee high boots, hand sewn denim, and forgotten cigarettes she is a fallen homecoming queen suffocating in a quiet suburbia toe nails chipping red and a cuss word stamped to nude lips hemp weaving vegan who spends reckless weekends kissing dirty bussiness men and saving the planet sipping whiskey dressed in diamonds and tying forest green scarves in chestnut hair she used to smile at strangers and light up a room dazzle ying yang hearts and cheer at pep ralleys scowl at horoscopes and revel in rap songs she was loved and admired and her grey eyes were empty now they're filled with poetry and harmonicas and slow dances in quiet graveyards Joni Mitchell and Maya Angelou now they're filled with the kind of truth that you only find in the strum of a guitar with ethnic food and quiet meditation and candle lit alleys now she paints her fate on tarot cards and stores her heart in a crystal ball outcast from the life she knew because all that honesty is witchcraft to the world and the spells she is casting are STARTING A REVOLUTION

It was a rainy and muddy New Year's Day at the zoo. Kiran and Kumar were indoors grooming their paws. What a difference from last year when they were skidding about in the mud. Satisfied that her paw...

Zoo Tales VII - Christmas Day 2

Christmas Day at the zoo this year was reminiscent of a scene from Hitchcock's 'The Birds', with crows perched on branches, circling in the air like vultures and swooping down to feast on the Christma...

Zoo Tales IV - Backstage

After sleeping, being groomed, playing and having their pictures taken the lion cubs were ordered by their mums to go backstage, out of the limelight. They obeyed immediately. I of course hoofed it t...

Zoo Tales III - Golden Cat

Next I met the wolverine's neighbour, Golden Cat, who was shy at first, but gaining in confidence, finally settled by the window to keep me company as I clicked away with my camera. When my mobile bu...

Zoo Tales VI - New Year's Day

Here is the New Year's Day report from your sheepy royal correspondent. The weather was a bit grim (well a lot grim) but the royal cubs loved it as they skidded about in the mud. "We love mu...

Zoo Tales V - Christmas Dinner

Overheard: Look, the keeper's feeding his arms to the cubs!... The cubs visited their dad, Royal, who was behind bars. When he heard the keeper's footsteps behind the fence, he quickly tracke...

News from Cat Rags County

Brrr! I'm still cold. After my shearing adventure, I came across this article from an old copy of Cat Rags County News. I wish I'd known about Shadow's services a lot earlier... SHEEP HERDING CAT...

Zoo Tales II - Dream Come True

After coming so close to a dream-come-true (as in 'close up to the lion cubs' but not actually cuddling them!) I had to tell the world. The mobile came in handy. Then I stood back as I got bl...

For Casper

Here, then, is a great mystery. For you who also love the little prince, and for me, nothing in the universe can be the same if somewhere, we do not know where, a sheep that we never saw has--yes or n...

Zoo Tales I - The Wolverine

The wolverine was sitting on a log minding her business. I took what I thought was a discreet picture but the flash accidentally went off. As I fiddled about with my Lumicron LDC-...
